First it was Austin Rogers, then Denarius Moore, now Gerald Jones is temporarily out. During the Vol’s Saturday scrimmage, junior WR Gerald Jones went down with a high ankle sprain. USC v. OSU in 3-D

The September 12, 2009 showdown between USC and Ohio State just got a little more interesting. According to the L.A. Times, the game will be shown in 3-D. Mark Jones and Bob Davie will call the 3-D telecast while Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit and reporter Lisa Salters will do the regular ESPN telecast. ESPN plans to have limited showings in LA, Columbus, Hartford, and Hurst, Texas. NO TICKETS will be for sale for any of the viewing sites.

Troy defensive back Jorrick Calvin has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2009 football season. Calvin was a solid and consistent contributor on last season’s Sun Belt conference championship team. The senior JUCO transfer accumulated 76 tackles and scored two touchdowns on special teams. He also intercepted two passes, recovered three fumbles, and had nine pass break-ups. The loss of his presence on defense will definitely be felt.   Unless Calvin is able to win an unlikely appeal, he will be watching Troy’s games from a distance.

Georgia Bulldog coach Mark Richt, along with other members of his coaching staff will be taking some unexpected time off of work this football season. The state of Georgia’s economic issues have forced UGA to implement mandatory furlough days for school employees thus affecting the coaching staff. Auburn’s Eric Smith is facing a third-degree assault charge for an assault at the Lexington Hotel.  The charge is punishable by a fine of up to $6,000 and up to one year in jail. Smith’s attorney stated that he will turn himself in on Monday. Neither the school nor the coach will comment on Smith’s status on the team.
