Auburn’s Eric Smith is facing a third-degree assault charge for an assault at the Lexington Hotel. The charge is punishable by a fine of up to $6,000 and up to one year in jail. Smith’s attorney stated that he will turn himself in on Monday.
Neither the school nor the coach will comment on Smith’s status on the team.
