“I gotta take myself”
Greg Paulus was most recently featured on the Dan Patrick Show. For about 10 minutes, Patrick, in true form, blitzed Paulus about both basketball and football. He was pushing Paulus to see if he would say anything negative about Coach K and Duke. He even put Paulus on the spot by asking who has a better basketball team, Syracuse or Duke.
But the real interest was his response about whether or not he is a better QB than Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, or Jimmy Clausen. Paulus put his interviewing skills to the test by properly dodging the questions or answered without really giving an answer. Although, he does think he has the ability to play in the NFL, he doesn’t believe he will get drafted. However, he is confident he will make a positive impression during his team visits and he truly believes he will be a better pro QB than Tim Tebow.
On a lighter side, if presented, Paulus did say he could beat up Jimmy Clausen in a good old-fashioned fist fight- “I would cheat and find a way to win.” Read the rest of this entry →
Zach Mettenberger, a top QB prospect, may be handing out bologna sandwiches instead of footballs in 2010 after his recent arrest.
The highly anticipated QB battle between three potential stars at the University of Georgia may have gotten a little less competitive this past weekend with the arrest of QB Zach Mettenberger. At the end of last season, Georgia’s coaching staff knew that there were three top prospects to lead the Bulldogs to conference supremacy in 2010: Logan Gray, Zach Mettenberger, and Aaron Murray.
All three candidates brought something different to the field. Gray is a very fast and athletic QB. While Mettenberger has an extremely strong arm, and Murray has the heart and courage of a lion (it was evident when he lead his high school team to the state championships all while playing on a half recovered broken fibula).
The competition weakend on Sunday with Mettenberger, who is a redshirt freshman and only 18, getting into some trouble with the law. He was arrested for underage drinking, consumption and possession of alcohol, possession of a fake ID, and disorderly conduct. All of these charges are jailable offenses and come with heavy fines. Utah still honoring Tyler Shreve's (#13) scholarship for now.
Utah commit, Tyler Shreve, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery on a school official following an altercation with his high school baseball coach last week. On February 24th, Shreve was informed by Redlands East Valley High School head coach James Cordes that he was being dismissed from the team. Shreve, unhappy with the news, wrestled Cordes to the ground before being pulled off of the coach by his father. Law enforcement was called to the scene where a report was filed by Cordes.
Shreve was arrested a few days later and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 13th. He’s also been expelled from school but will enroll elsewhere and graduate this spring. University of Utah officials have played their cards close to their chest concerning the incident and aren’t planning on making any decisions on Shreve’s status until the legal process runs its course.
Utah will tread lightly on this issue as Shreve was the 24th best QB in the nation according to ESPN.com’s 2010 recruiting rankings. It will be interesting to see how this plays out for Shreve and Utah.
Notre Dame and Maryland To Play at FedEx Field in 2011
Notre Dame and Maryland will meet on November 12, 2011, at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. As of last year, Notre Dame’s athletic department decided to play one home game a year away from South Bend. As a result, the Irish played Washington State in San Antonio last season at the Alamodome, and are scheduled to play at the new Yankee Stadium against Army next season.
While D.C. has a large number of Notre Dame alums, the University of Maryland is only 15 miles from FedEx field. Sadly, Irish fans will still probably outnumber Terrapin fans at the stadium on November 12th.

The maharaja takes time out of his busy workout to sign autographs for a mere $160 a pop.
In a prior post, we discussed at length the absurdity of the amount Tim Tebow was charging for his autograph. Whichever side of the coin you fell on, this guy pictured above clearly thought it was worth every penny, $235 to be exact ($160 for the autograph plus $75 for the Heisman picture).
The pictured fan wasn’t the only one who couldn’t wait for the big day. On Saturday, the fans came out in droves to meet and greet the great Tim Tebow. One of the more unique items Tim Tebow signed was a Holy Bible, go figure.
From day one, Tebow has been doing it right and marketing himself perfectly. Now let’s hope this distraction wont take away from his prep time as draft day is right around the corner. In the meantime, kudos to his agent for maximizing Tebow’s profits in this down economy!
Unfortunately, his football career never took off. He tried out for various teams to include the Tennessee Oilers (1997), the Barcelona Dragons (1998), the Oakland Raiders (1999), Cleveland Browns (1999) and finally the Seattle Seahawks (2000). After he realized football wasn’t his thing, he opened a restaurant, Jo Jo’s BBQ, on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, but that enterprise lasted about as long as his playing days.
Since his prior endevours didn’t amount to much, he turned to television and film. Before his Old Spice fame, you may have seen this former athlete/restaurateur in shows such as Ugly Betty and Days of our Lives. However, his fame did not launch until Old Spice came knocking on his door. Read the rest of this entry →

USF and Skip Holtz were just about lined up to offer star high school kicker Marvin Kloss a grey shirt for the 2010 season with the opportunity to be placed on scholarship for the 2011 season. Hearing of this news, Kloss decided to celebrate as any normal high school teenager would by reveling at the neighborhood house party. During this party, Kloss presumably got drunk and decided to practice the snatch and grab play. Regrettably, the play didn’t quite work. Kloss was subsequently arrested for stealing over $8,200 of valuables from the home during the party.
According to Collier authorities, the victim stated several items of value were taken from her home to include a Wii, a gold bracelet, a watch, and a camera. Apparently, the victim was out of town when the theft occurred. The twist to the story is the victim’s neighbor is partly to blame because the neighbor was supposed to watch the house while the victim was away. Somehow, the victim’s instructions of how to watch the house were lost in translation because throwing a house party is not generally what you do. Read the rest of this entry →
