Samuel Named Frontrunner In UGA RB Race

The chatter in Athens, GA this off-season was all about who was going to replace Knowshon Moreno at tailback. Many believed that Caleb King would be his heir apparent,  but sophomore Richard Samuel has other plans. Samuel has impressed the UGA coaching staff so much that they have named him the leader in the tailback race.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said, “Richard is playing with a lot of energy, good stamina, and he goes hard,” Richt said Friday. “We hope as the game goes on, he gets stronger and can blaze a trail. When other guys start to fatigue, he looks even faster. He wants to play, he wants to block, he wants to get the job done. He has a comfortable air about him and that gives people confidence.”

Samuel played in 11 games for the Bulldogs last season and rushed for 133 yards and 1 TD. He also played a little on special teams as a return man. Samuels at 6’2, 216 lbs., will bring a power style running attack the the GA offense. The season is only a little less than two weeks away and it looks like Samuel may be the #1 RB on the depth chart heading into the season.
