Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading authority on the Covid-19 pandemic, suggests that the future of live sporting events will likely include games without spectators. Right now, this isn’t the plan, it is just one of the many ideas that may come to fruition, but it shows optimism that sports may return soon.
The major hurdle is the public health concern. The largest college football stadiums hold over 100,000 fans making the potential for exposer quite high. Dr. Fauci suggests that college football (or any sport for that matter) can go forward, but there are hurdles to address. Some of these include athletes staying isolated in hotels, teams willing to be tested every week, and attending games is strictly prohibited.
Again, this is just one of many ideas. There are a number of contingency plans being built for the 2020 season. And as Kirk Herbstreit stated on Late Night with Locks, “My feeling is, come Hell or high water, they’re going to play football.”
At the end of the day, the players, the fans, the networks, they all want college football to kick-off.
