Leavitt jabs at possible NFL career?

At least one of three college coaches fired this season for mistreatment of players can be found this week at the Senior Bowl. Former USF coach Jim Leavitt packed his bags for Mobile, Alabama earlier this week in hopes of gaining employment. He is there to support his former players chasing the NFL dream, George Selvie, Nate Allen and Jerome Murphy, and he is attending both the North and the South practices for networking purposes. The Senior Bowl...

Mount Cody, the summit of the Senior Bowl

Photo Source: SportsIllustdated.com The NFL scouts could not help but miss Mount Cody today. Big Bama Terrence Cody tipped the scale during the Senior Bowl pregame preparations. The 6’5 Cody came in at a whopping 370 pounds, slimmer than the earth shaking 390 pounds during his junior college days. The scouts are concerned because while at Alabama, Cody would often come out of the game during 3rd downs and obvious passing situations because he was out of steam. This...

OU kicker beat, knocked unconscious

The Oregon Ducks are not having a good week. First, late Saturday or early Sunday morning, Oregon’s kicker Rob Beard sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures to his face after stepping into a fight to help his fellow teammate Mike Bowlin (it’s unclear if he stepped in to break up the fight or to assist Bowlin in fighting). At first, Bowlin was involved in a verbal altercation with several party-goers but the altercation quickly turned physical. Seeing his friend...

Heyward enjoys the college life, he will be back next season

At least 53 underclassmen are rolling the dice for a shot at the NFL. Some notable names include ND’s Jimmy Clausen , Penn State’s Navarro Bowman, and Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant. These players are just a few of those electing to forego their senior year of college for the riches and fame of the NFL. However, not all underclassmen are ready for the fame and fortune of the next level. One of the top defensive ends in the country...

Sparty to get a rhytidectomy

It appears Michigan State is getting a face lift. In December, the university applied for a patent (which is still pending) to secure the new look and the school plans to make an official announcement this April presumably before the spring game. For you longtime fans, the logo still sticks to the traditional roots of Michigan State’s past designs. If you take a look at the two designs pictured above, you can see that the classic Spartan gladiator helmet looks a little more sleeker...

It’s finally Friday

All is quiet over at Team Matador as we get ready for the weekend with Tim Tebow and the East-West Shrine Game. So if you are like me and you are enjoying a cup of coffee this Friday morning, here are a couple of links that will get you going. It looks like MSU is tired of being in the middle of the pack when it comes to recruiting, so to spur their rankings, the Bulldogs took some of their...

The Trojans win again

In the college world, when you hear or see “SC,” what’s the first thing that comes to mind? South Carolina, right? Wrong. The University of South Carolina has been in a trademark duel with the University of Southern California regarding its similar interlocking “SC” design and logo. When South Carolina filed its patent for its interlocking “SC” design, the trademark examiner tentatively approved the design. However, Southern California immediately opposed the patent. The case weaved its way through the...
