Leavitt jabs at possible NFL career?

What’s wrong with a little discipline?

At least one of three college coaches fired this season for mistreatment of players can be found this week at the Senior Bowl. Former USF coach Jim Leavitt packed his bags for Mobile, Alabama earlier this week in hopes of gaining employment. He is there to support his former players chasing the NFL dream, George Selvie, Nate Allen and Jerome Murphy, and he is attending both the North and the South practices for networking purposes.

The Senior Bowl is not only a platform for college players to highlight their talent one last time, but it’s an unofficial job fair for unemployed coaches. With USF firing Leavitt after he allegedly choked and slapped around one of his players, he has been calling all his contacts regarding coaching positions. He simply wants to coach again.

There are questions regarding his ability to be a head coach in the NFL, so he is broadening his horizon and looking at assistant positions as well to include linebacker coach and defensive line coach. At this point, with the allegations lingering over his head, it’s safe to presume no marquee college team would hire him as a head coach. At the very least, I wouldn’t want my son to play for him.

If Leavitt lands an NFL gig, he will have to learn to control his temper. The NFL players don’t take lightly when they get abused by their coaches. Either way, The Matador does not condone the actions of Leavitt and if the allegations are true, Leavitt is getting everything he deserves.
