#91 is behind bars after sexual assault charges

Some shocking news coming out of the SMU camp. Earlier today, back-up defensive lineman Torlan Pittman was indefinitely suspended following sexual assault charges filed against him for raping a woman with his friend back in September 2009.

Pittman and former Sam Houston State baseball player, Curtis Weatherford, were both charged for this crime. Apparently, Pittman and Weatherford were at a house party where they met the victim. Reports state the victim was heavily intoxicated and then taken home by the two suspects where she was raped. Pittman and Weatherford acknowledged to investigators that they had sex with the victim, but stressed it was consensual.

There is also questions concerning whether or not the victim was drugged as laboratory results found a substance in the victim which amplifies the effects of alcohol. The victim told investigators that she was drugged and then taken back to Weatherford’s apartment but she does not remember anything else. Witnesses at the party stated that the victim was so intoxicated that she couldn’t even stand up.

In the meantime and due to the severity of the charges, coach June Jones had no choice but to suspend Pittman until the situation resolves. Pittman is currently being held at the Walker County jail.
