Oregon's Rob Beard (#93) is in stabile condition after suffering severe head injuries and multiple facial fractures from a fight this past weekend

The Oregon Ducks are not having a good week. First, late Saturday or early Sunday morning, Oregon’s kicker Rob Beard sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures to his face after stepping into a fight to help his fellow teammate Mike Bowlin (it’s unclear if he stepped in to break up the fight or to assist Bowlin in fighting). At first, Bowlin was involved in a verbal altercation with several party-goers but the altercation quickly turned physical.

Seeing his friend being pushed around, Beard got involved. Beard was then quickly knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the head by several people. He was ultimately knocked unconscious. When police found Beard in a car near East 17th Street and Patterson Street, he was immediately rushed and hospitalized at Sacred Heart Medical Center. As of this morning, Beard was in critical condition but later in the day his condition stabilized.

Secondly, two Ducks, their names have yet to be released, are being questioned for their role in the theft of property stolen from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house. Early Sunday morning, a fraternity member contacted local authorities to report the theft of property from the fraternity residence to include two MacBook Pro computers and a guitar. A witness was able to identify the players, but since there have been no formal charges, no names are being released.

There are rumors swirling around the internet that there is a correlation between the fight and the theft. However, it is too early in the investigation to draw to that conclusion.

At this point, if anyone has any information involving any of these incidences, please contact the Eugene Police tip line at 541-682-8888.
