At least 53 underclassmen are rolling the dice for a shot at the NFL. Some notable names include ND’s Jimmy Clausen , Penn State’s Navarro Bowman, and Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant. These players are just a few of those electing to forego their senior year of college for the riches and fame of the NFL. However, not all underclassmen are ready for the fame and fortune of the next level.
One of the top defensive ends in the country who would be an NFL late first rounder or a sure fire second rounder is Ohio State’s Cameron Heyward. Heyward is an elite DE who will make a name for himself when he decides to play on Sundays. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, Heyward is coming back to Columbus for his senior year and a shot for the national championship. Rather than collecting millions of dollars and eating strips at Ruth’s Chris, he’ll be eating a chipotle chicken wrap at Lou’s Café at Drinko Hall in 2010.
When asked why he did not opt for the draft, Heyward simply stated that he loves college and he is enjoying the school, classes, parties, and atmosphere. He is not ready to cut his experience short for the responsibilities of the NFL.
Heyward will be the defensive leader with Dexter Larimore, Nathan Williams and John Simon in tow. As a Buckeye, Heyward amassed 114 tackles and 11 sacks. 2010 should be an exciting season for Ohio State, nothing less than a spot at the national championship game would be a disappointment.
