USC’s Pete Carroll is accustomed to shaking down most of LA for recruits with little to no challenge from cross-town rival UCLA. If July is any indicator of things to come, Carroll may not be able to take that for granted for much longer. Coach Rick Neuheisel and his Bruins are making their presence in the valley known and have been hitting the recruiting circuit hard this summer.
UCLA has already had an extremely active July (3 commits) and recently secured yet another commit in 4 star outside linebacker Tony Jefferson. Jefferson was also heavily recruited by USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Miami, Notre Dame, and Michigan. Rivals.com has Jefferson listed as 6′ 190 lbs. Although Jefferson played OLB in high school the Bruins will move him to safety where he should fit in nicely considering his frame and 4.5 speed. As a junior at Chula Vista CA’s, Eastlake HS , Jefferson accumulated 88 tackles and 2 ints. He also was a dynamic offensive rushing threat running for 1300 yds. and 28 TDs.
The Bruins already have 7 commits for the 2010 recruiting class that include three 4 stars players. Folks in Westwood hold on, the ride is just beginning.
