Bush-Whacked, Heisman trophy returned to sender

USC is doing the right thing by cleaning house of any evidence that reminds the football program it’s on probation. The first obvious move was to give the boot to AD Mike Garrett and his arrogant ways. But in a surprising fashion, USC removed Bush’s replica Heisman trophy from Heritage Hall and is going to return it to the Heisman committee. It still remains to be seen if Bush is required to return his Heisman. At this juncture, USC...

USC’s Carswell transfers to Cincinnati

Lane Kiffin’s depth chart continues to shrink as sources indicate USC’s wide receiver Brandon Carswell is transferring to Cincinnati to join former USC teammate Vidal Hazelton. The junior WR is free to transfer without sitting a season per USC’s NCAA sanctions. This is the fourth player in as many days to defect from USC because of the heavy sanctions levied against the team. This isn’t a significant blow for the team as Carswell was very limited in production last...

He wouldn’t give a Faulk

Marshall Faulk is pretty flippant about NCAA regulations. He understands Reggie Bush’s perspective with respect to cash payments to athletes but doesn’t see why coaches aren’t held accountable for violations. In an article by Jim Moore, Faulk stated that he would have had no problem taking money while in school if it was offered to him. “Were you ever offered anything in college?” I asked. “Nah, I went to San Diego State,” Faulk said. “Other than good weather, they...

The gauntlet falls on Troy

Though USC has not confirmed the reports, the NCAA is heavily sanctioning the Trojans for their NCAA violations. The sanctions include a two year bowl ban and a loss of more than 20 football scholarships. Additionally, the school may have to forfeit prior victories to include their National Championship season. USC did not confirm or deny the reports but the school issued a statement saying, “we are looking at things right now. That’s about all I can say.” It...

The NCAA has a unique relationship with USC

The NCAA has some bizarre love affair with USC and appears to go out of its way to protect the program. Recently, the Pac 10 conference reported that an unnamed coach (Pete Carroll) was found in violation for having a paid consultant on staff during practices and games. The violation wasn’t necessarily the hiring of a consultant; rather, it had more to do with the number of coaches the team employed. Though the Pac 10 did not release the...

Same Aaron, different Corp

Spring practice is a bit different for former Southern Cal QB Aaron Corp who now takes snaps at Robins Stadium. Last season at this time, he was the projected starter for the top ranked Trojans. After a knee injury sidelined the gun-slinger for much of spring practice, Pete Carroll’s prodigy Matt Barkley took over the team and never looked back. Corp did have one opportunity to shine as a Trojan when he was given the nod to start for an...

Under The Knife

USC QB Matt Barkley underwent wrist surgery earlier this week to repair damage suffered on his right wrist. The Trojans are hoping that Barkley makes a full recovery in time for the start of spring ball. USC welcomes new head coach Lane Kiffin and the coaching staff are hoping that Barkley can make it back by spring practice as Kiffin will be implementing a new offense for Barkley to run. As of now, Barkley and Mitch Mustain are the...

Is this the Fall of Troy

Rumor is swirling around campus that USC’s Pete Carroll is the preferred coach for the newly vacant Seattle Seahawks post. This morning, the Seahawks fired first year coach Jim Mora citing lack of wins. The Seahawks immediately turned their attention to Carroll as he is thought to be the prefect candidate for the position. As we recall, Carroll’s head coaching stints in the NFL were not too much to brag about. His record with the Jets (in 1994) after one season...
