The Genius of Gus Malzahn

Auburn offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn, is arguably college football’s most creative offensive mind. One of the early innovators of the current wildcat offense, a formation he routinely ran at Arkansas with former Razorbacks Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, Malzahn has been successful at every stop throughout his coaching career. Most recent, his offensive philosophy has propelled the Auburn Tigers to the top of nearly every single offensive statistical category since his arrival last season. Under his guidance, this year’s Auburn...

NCAA correct on Masoli denial

Jeremiah Masoli’s eyes popped out of his head like a love-struck cartoon werewolf when he found out Houston Nutt wanted him playing at Ole Miss come 2010. Unfortunately, the NCAA nixed Masoli’s waiver plans and the troubled youth will be forced to redshirt this season if his appeal, which will most likely be, denied. Masoli was attempting to take advantage of the NCAA waiver rule in which a player does not have to sit out a season if he transfers to...

Masoli has yellow light

Troubled QB Jeremiah Masoli is still waiting for the green light from the NCAA to suit up as opening day nears. Masoli has yet to be cleared for game action by the NCAA but he is still allowed to practice while his request is pending. Coach Houston Nutt isn’t nervous yet, but he has doubts as to whether or not Masoli will be eligible come kick-off time. The season opener against Jacksonville State is a mere 11 days away. Fortunately for...

Ole Miss takes chance on Masoli

Former Oregon Duck QB Jeremiah Masoli has landed on his feet. This time, in Oxford, Mississippi. Masoli was dismissed from the Oregon Ducks following a couple of run-ins with the law earlier this summer and it looked as if his collegiate football playing days were going to end. However, Houston Nutt and the Ole Miss Rebels have come to his rescue giving Masoli a fresh start in the SEC. Masoli visited Ole Miss this past weekend and informed the...

Masoli to resurface at Ole Miss?

Don’t  look now but former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli could end up in the SEC at Ole Miss. Life after Jevan Snead is underway in Oxford and the Rebels are heading into the 2010 season lacking depth at QB. As of now, the Rebs are carrying only two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster after Raymond Cotton’s transfer was confirmed yesterday. It has been rumored that Masoli has shown interest in playing for Houston Nutt at Ole Miss, but Nutt has...

Houston Nutt’s Pathetic Attempt At Publicity

It what is seeming like a yearly occurrence, Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is publicly spurning  “perceived offers” from other programs. Last year it was Auburn, this year it’s Kansas. Nutt and Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone issued a statement after media outlets leaked info that Nutt was interested in the Kansas job. Houston, please stop trying to shamelessly promote yourself. Nutt seems to be running a sort of personal PR campaign for himself that only makes him look foolish. You’re not...

Traveling Man

There was a time with Mitch Mustain was one of the most highly touted recruits in the country. He committed to Arkansasand people in Fayetteville thought that they’d see multiple national championships with him behind center. Mustain was one of the most decorated HS recruits in history winning the 2005 Gatorade, Parade, and USA Today player of the year awards. My how the times have changed. Fast forward four years and not only is Mustain not at Arkansas, but he’s so far back...

Hardy Hurt

Ole Miss DE Greg Hardy will not suit up this Saturday for the Rebels’s second game of the season against Southeastern Louisiana. Hardy sprained his ankle on September 6th during Ole Miss’s game against Memphis and it is still giving him trouble.  Rebel head coach Houston Nutt announced on Monday,  “I’d say Greg is very doubtful for this game,” Nutt said. “His ankle is still swollen. There’s some discoloration. He has a ways to go.” Hardy has been one of...
