Mustain May Play Baseball For USC

There was a time with Mitch Mustain was one of the most highly touted recruits in the country. He committed to Arkansasand people in Fayetteville thought that they’d see multiple national championships with him behind center. Mustain was one of the most decorated HS recruits in history winning the 2005 Gatorade, Parade, and USA Today player of the year awards. My how the times have changed. Fast forward four years and not only is Mustain not at Arkansas, but he’s so far back on the depth chart at USC that he may never see the football field again.

Mustain started as a true freshman at Arkansas during the 2006 season, and complied an impressive 8-0 record as a starter. Much to the dismay of Mustain, he lost his starting job during the 9th game of the season when then head coach, Houston Nutt, decided to go with Casey Dick. After the 2006 season, Mustain left Arkansas for the sun and fun at USC. Things for him have gone downhill since then.

With no guarantee of seeing the football field again, Mustain is contemplating trading the football cleats for baseball spikes. There is a possibility that he’ll join the Trojan baseball team as a pitcher in the spring of next year. No matter what happens, it’s a shame that someone with so much talent has let it go to waste. We wish Mitch the best of luck and hope that he finds his niche in whatever sport he wishes to pursue.
