QB Jeremiah Masoli is still waiting for clearance from the NCAA

Troubled QB Jeremiah Masoli is still waiting for the green light from the NCAA to suit up as opening day nears. Masoli has yet to be cleared for game action by the NCAA but he is still allowed to practice while his request is pending. Coach Houston Nutt isn’t nervous yet, but he has doubts as to whether or not Masoli will be eligible come kick-off time. The season opener against Jacksonville State is a mere 11 days away. Fortunately for the Rebels, JSU is a 1-AA program that returns 13 starters from an 8-3 squad that shouldn’t pose much of a threat to Ole Miss.

Due to the urgency of the matter, Coach Nutt would appreciate a quicker ruling on the issue so he can game plan accordingly. Masoli is seeking a waiver, which is usually rubber-stamped, to bypass the 1 year requirement by enrolling in a graduate degree program not offered by Oregon. Though it is expected he will be granted the waiver, it may be too late for Masoli to start in the season opener.

With questions looming at QB, Coach Nutt indicated that Masoli will definitely get playing time, it’s just a matter of when. In the meantime, expect to see Nathan Stanley under center as the JSU Gamecocks come into town on September 4th.
