Colorado Buffalo gone wild

The Colorado Buffaloes continue to deal with another off-the-field incident. This time Coach Dan Hawkins had no choice but to suspend one of his players for an unfortunate act. Junior LB Brandon Gouin was suspended from the team for providing alcohol to minors. What makes this story disturbing was he was supplying high school kids with booze. Apparently, Gouin purchased four kegs of Rolling Rock beer for the 200 or so students, one being his brother, attending Boulder High’s...

CU later McKnight

Photo source: Life.com For all you Colorado fans, you can’t seem to catch a break, unless of course we are talking about a broken fibula. As Thursday’s scrimmage was coming to a close, senior WR Scotty McKnight suffered an injury to his leg. The injury occurred when McKnight was making a sideline catch and was forced out of bounds. He apparently ran into one of the walls and railings that caused him to step awkwardly resulting in his injury....

Father knows best, sometimes

It’s going to be awfully quite at the Hawkins house this Thanksgiving season. Apparently after Dan Hawkins continues his unsuccessful run as a head coach, he’s decided to indirectly blame his son for the Buffs’ woes and their 3-8 season In a nutshell, Hawkins spoke out to the media saying he regretted bringing his son Cody Hawkins into the program because it just didn’t work out. If he had to do it again, coach said he wouldn’t have recruited...

It’s about time

Cody Hawkins has been given every single chance to perform this season and–surprise surprise– has failed miserably. His coach and father continued to start Hawkins despite his terrible 2009 campaign. This season, Hawkins has an aplatry 1-4 record throwing 9 TDs and 9 INTs. For Colorado, nepotism was not such a bright idea. Even with a strong father-and-son bond, Coach Dan Hawkins has finally recognized that it’s time to move on. It looks like QB Tyler Hansen will start calling the shots from under center.  During...

Colorado Suspends Top Receiver

The Colorado Buffaloes continue to take hits. This time, WR Markques Simas (So. 6’2, 215 lbs.) has been suspended by the team. Simas is quick with great hands. He is projected to be the go-to guy this season as the WR position is extremely thin and inexperienced. Coach Dan Hawkins states the suspension is for violation of team rules. As of now, Simas will miss the first two games of the season against in-state rival Colorado State and then...

Simmons Gets the Green Light

The Colorado Buffaloes received some good news yesterday regarding JUCO transfer, Andre Simmons. Simmons, a wide receiver, was ruled academically ineligible and had been working this summer on completing classes at Independence Community College (KS) towards an associates degree. The series of events leading to Simmons’s reinstatement just confirm how serious Division 1 schools are about their football programs. Colorado’s fall practices opened yesterday giving Simmons and teachers at Independence Community College (ICC) little time to determine his grades for summer classes....
