Simmons Gets the Green Light

Andre Simmons

The Colorado Buffaloes received some good news yesterday regarding JUCO transfer, Andre Simmons. Simmons, a wide receiver, was ruled academically ineligible and had been working this summer on completing classes at Independence Community College (KS) towards an associates degree.

The series of events leading to Simmons’s reinstatement just confirm how serious Division 1 schools are about their football programs. Colorado’s fall practices opened yesterday giving Simmons and teachers at Independence Community College (ICC) little time to determine his grades for summer classes. Classes at ICC ended earlier this week. ICC administrators worked quickly to to see if he passed his courses. ICC administrators faxed the final grades down to Boulder for further review. After receiving the paperwork from ICC, and determining that Simmons was now eligible, CU informed Simmons of the news. Simmons took the first plane out of Kansas and arrived in Boulder just in time for the first practice of the fall.
