From Bruin to Husky

Washington’s Steve Sarkisian expects great success in 2010 with QB Jake Locker leading a high powered Huskies attack. Unfortunately, it’s the defense that tempers any positive feelings for Washington who boasted a young and inexperienced squad last year. For Husky fans, be grateful Coach Sark loves to give second chances as he just snagged a former UCLA recruit to add to the lack of depth at the LB position. LB Josh Shirley was a highly recruited linebacker from Fontana,...

Buffs snag USC’s Patterson

The Colorado Buffaloes are next in the receiving line of USC transfers as WR Travon Patterson is headed to the Centennial State. The senior WR never got a chance to shine at USC being he was buried in the depth chart of the talented rich WR pool. As a Trojan, the speedster did return punts and saw some special teams playing time but as a WR he only amassed 10 catches for 96 yards, hardly NFL material.  Though he only...

Bush-Whacked, Heisman trophy returned to sender

USC is doing the right thing by cleaning house of any evidence that reminds the football program it’s on probation. The first obvious move was to give the boot to AD Mike Garrett and his arrogant ways. But in a surprising fashion, USC removed Bush’s replica Heisman trophy from Heritage Hall and is going to return it to the Heisman committee. It still remains to be seen if Bush is required to return his Heisman. At this juncture, USC...

Austin to be suspended his entire senior year?

Rumors are swirling that UNC’s star defensive tackle Marvin Austin will be suspended his entire senior year due to NCAA violations to include receiving and accepting extra benefits from a sports agent. The NCAA has not confirmed or denied this rumor, but it’s becoming clear that the next time you see Austin, it will be in a professional uniform. There is speculation that Austin is not the only player to be suspended. Austin’s troubles stemmed after the NCAA was...

Crane kicked Tiger

On Monday, the Missouri athletic department announced that LB Tyler Crane was booted off of the team for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. Crane did not comment on the news, but looking back on his career, it makes sense why he was dismissed from the team. During his Tiger tenure, he had limited playing time and only amassed 6 tackles in 22 games. For coach Pinkel and crew, this looks more like a dumping than anything else. With the NCAA harping...

Pitt’s Sheard goes MMA, suspended indefinitely

Pittsburgh’s Jabaal Sheard took out whatever frustrations he had built up on Edward Parker this past weekend.  As Sheard and Parker were jawing at each other Saturday night on East Carson Street in front of LaFond Gallery, something set the two off and the brawl began. The DE and top pass rusher threw Parker into a storefront window and proceeded to beat the living crap out of him. When Parker fell to the ground defenseless, Sheard continued to throw the...

Boise State commit Emil Smith passes away

It’s a sad day for the Bronco Nation as 18-year-old recruit Emil Smith passed away early Sunday morning after a horrific automobile accident over the weekend. The Boise State commit was a passenger in a speeding car that collided with a minivan on Domenigoni Parkway in Hemet, California. Smith was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead at Menifee Valley Medical Center. Smith, who was poised to play the nickel position in Petersen’s defense, was recruited by Air Force, Duke, and UTEP, but...

Briscoe kid indicted

Some disturbing news is coming out of Sevierville as former Tennessee Vol Josh Briscoe, 23, was named in a three count indictment charging him with one count of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of solicitation of a minor stemming from a text message. If the indictment wasn’t bad enough, the victim was identified as a 15 year old male student athlete from Pigeon Forge High School, where Briscoe was an assistant coach at the time. The...
