From Bruin to Husky

LB Josh Shirley finds a new home in Seattle, Washington

Washington’s Steve Sarkisian expects great success in 2010 with QB Jake Locker leading a high powered Huskies attack. Unfortunately, it’s the defense that tempers any positive feelings for Washington who boasted a young and inexperienced squad last year. For Husky fans, be grateful Coach Sark loves to give second chances as he just snagged a former UCLA recruit to add to the lack of depth at the LB position. LB Josh Shirley was a highly recruited linebacker from Fontana, California who made the news early in his short lived Bruins career by being arrested and kicked off the team for stealing a purse back in June.

The alleged purse snatcher was disappointed in his dismissal and decided to transfer to Washington, who heavily recruited him, where he will probably see the field as a true freshman in a back up role if not as a starter. Sarkisian is not worried about Shirley’s past and was quoted as saying “we have done our due diligence and truly feel that this is not indicative of his true character or the way that he was raised.”

Don’t think for a second Shirley doesn’t have November 13th circled in red on his calendar as the Bruins travel north to Husky Stadium to face-off in what should be an exciting conference clash against a team that rejected him.
