Mendenhall wants Pre-season Polls Abolished

It looks like BYU’s head coach Bronco Mendenhall is fed up with the preseason polls. Mendenhall feels that the Mountain West just doesn’t get any respect when it comes to rankings and bowl selections. During the conference’s annual media blitz, he stated, “I don’t think it is possible to pick, nor do I think, philosophically, that there ought to be any preseason polls, period.” He later suggested that “after Game 6, then possibly there is enough information to make...

Update on Keller v. EA Sports, et al. (09-1967)

As you  know, back in May, former Arizona State and Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller didn’t have the career the recruiters thought he would so he decided to make money the good ole fashion way. Keller sued Electronic Arts and the NCAA for conspiring to use his identity and other college athletes’ identities for pecuniary gain, “despite clear prohibitions on the use of student names and likenesses in NCAA bylaws, contracts and licensing agreements.”  Currently, the case is pending in the US District Court for the...

Richt and Co. banned from Carver of Columbus

It looks like Georgia’s Mark Richt is not welcome at Carver of Columbus after a recent recruiting miscommunication and debacle. Carver’s QB Devin Burns was initially offered a scholarship to play for Richt. Once he decided to commit, he and the family traveled to Athens, Georgia to announce his plans to play for the Bulldogs. Burns’ family, friends, and teammates all decided to head down to Athens to support his decision and celebrate the joyous occasion. Unfortunately, no one told Burns the scholarship...

PSU WR McDonald Kicked Off the Team

It looks like the Nittany Lions will be down a WR come this fall. Penn State backup receiver James McDonald is off the football team after police charged him with drunken driving. The Bulldogs’ Anthony Dixon Arrested

This just in from the AP, Mississippi State’s RB Anthony Dixon, recently named preseason second-team All-Southern Conference, was arrested, when officers found Dixon intoxicated with two empty champagne bottles in plain view on the car floor. He was arrested at the corner of Montgomery and Hogan streets in Starkville at 10:14 p.m. this past Saturday. Apparently, Dixon, while driving under the influence of alcohol, drove off the side of the road. When found, one officer noted his slurred speech and bloodshot...
