Heisman hopeful LaMichael James fractures elbow in win

During the fourth quarter of the Oregon Ducks conference game against Cal, RB LaMichael James suffered a gruesome elbow fracture as he tried to recover a goal line fumble early in the fourth quarter.  The picture isn’t pretty and his elbow is certainly bent in a horrific way but James popped it back in while on the field. James did say that he suffered the exact same injury in high school and played the next week.  He is confident in...

The Impending Battle Out West

Although the season is still young, a potential game of epic proportion is looming out west. Reno, Nevada, could possibly be the site of college football’s most anticipated game of the year this November 26th when the Boise State Broncos come to town to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack. Tickets will be scarce as national title implications will more than likely be on the line when the two teams meet on the gridiron. College football analysts and followers...

Best To Sit For Cal’s Bowl Game

Cal’s star RB Jahvid Best will not play in the team’s Poinsetta Bowl game. Best suffered a frightening concussion in early November and hasn’t played a down of football since. This has been a disappointing end of the season for the one time Heisman hopeful. Before suffering the injury, Best had rushed for 864 yards and 16 TDs. This is probably the wisest move by Cal’s coaching staff. Best is a junior and has not yet mentioned his intentions...

Cal’s Best Heisman hope is out

Cal got a huge scare this weekend after RB Jahvid Best was knocked unconscious after his signature high-flying leap into the end zone against Oregon State. This is his second straight concussion after he suffered a mild concussion the previous week against Arizona State. After his leap, the junior was taken to an Oakland area hospital where he was diagnosed with a severe concussion, but fortunately CT scans and x-rays came back normal. Though he left the hospital within 24 hours, he will be sidelined...

“I don’t like talking about fumbles!”

For those of you who don’t follow Oregon State football, here is a surprising statistic that no one seems to be talking about. RB Jacquizz Rodgers has amassed 161.6 all-purpose yards/game with 15 TDs this season. He is one of the top RBs in the Pac-10. But the most impressive statistic is he has never fumbled a football in his 510 college football touches. This is a remarkable feat for the 5’7, 191lb RB. When asked about this streak,...

Cal Loses WR Boateng for 4-6 Weeks

Cal’s leading wideout Nyan Boateng will miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a broken foot against Minnesota on Saturday. Cal has gotten off to a strong start this season and enters Pac-10 play this week when they travel to Eugene to take on the Oregon Ducks. The Bears will definitely miss the Brooklyn, NY native as he already has 439 yards receiving and 5 touchdowns in three games. The Bears will look for junior Jeremy Ross to step up and take the...

The ACC Embarrassment

The Matador received heavy criticism for his early preseason bashing of the ACC.  If we learned anything from week 1, The Matador wasn’t too far off the mark. The two inexcusable beatings landed at the hands of Duke losing to Richmond 16-24 and lowly UVA being ousted by in-state rival William & Mary 14-26. Another game that set the conference back was Cal thumping Maryland 52-13. The ACC did have some close games that came down to 4th quarter...

Cal’s Tad Smith out for season

Cal’s quest to win the Pac-10 just got a little more difficult. TE Tad Smith tore his ACL in his right knee during Tuesday night’s scrimmage. Today, Coach Jeff Tedford confirmed the tear and also confirmed Smith is out for the season. Smith is no stranger to injury as he tore his ACL in his left knee in 2006 causing him to miss the entire season. Additionally, he used his redshirt in 2005. If he wishes to play collegiate...
