Cal’s quest to win the Pac-10 just got a little more difficult. TE Tad Smith tore his ACL in his right knee during Tuesday night’s scrimmage. Today, Coach Jeff Tedford confirmed the tear and also confirmed Smith is out for the season. Smith is no stranger to injury as he tore his ACL in his left knee in 2006 causing him to miss the entire season.
Additionally, he used his redshirt in 2005. If he wishes to play collegiate football again, he will have to petition the NCAA for a 6th year of eligibility. The team and coach Tedford are all disappointed in the news and hope all the best for Smith.
