The San Diego State Aztecs are set to host the BYU Cougars in the 2012 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl this Thursday, December 12, 2012 at 8 pm (EST) on ESPN.  This is the Aztecs second appearance in the Poinsettia Bowl (defeated Navy 35-13 in 2010) while this is the first time the Cougars are traveling to Qualcomm Stadium for post-season play. On the Aztecs side of the ball, fans should see an impressive ground game with the duo...

The Buck stops here: kicking off campaign for Congressional seat

Former BYU defensive lineman and Washington Redskin alum Jason Buck can “no longer stand by while Barack Obama…destroys the fabric of our government.” With Buck’s strong statements bashing the administration’s lavish spending, the All-American linebacker announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District to tackle Obama’s free spending. Buck wants a leaner government that is “pro-family and fiscally sound.” Buck will have to face-off against a litany of fellow conservatives for the GOP nomination....

BYU makes commitment to Fight Hunger (bowl)

With BYU turning to independent status next season, which makes no sense, the university just confirmed its lack of commitment to football, or at least fielding a competitive football team. The school announced its post-season tie in bowl will be the Fight Hunger Bowl come 2013. That’s right, I had to look it up myself. Apparently the Fight Hunger Bowl committee dropped the WAC and secured BYU. If by some small miracle BYU ever gets a BCS bid, the...

Ex-Cougar becomes a Bear

BYU’s RB Harvey Unga and Illinois’ DT Josh Price-Brent were the only two collegiate players drafted in the 2010 NFL Supplemental Draft today. The Chicago Bears added BYU’s all-time leading rusher to its already crowded backfield with Matt Forte, Chester Taylor, Garrett Wolfe, Khalil Bell and Brandon Minor all itching for the ball. The Dallas Cowboys picked up a strong tackle in Josh Price-Brent who is poised to back-up pro bowler Jay Ratliff. Both players were selected in the...

Caged Cougar freed

Was it alcohol, fornication, or both, who knows? In a surprising announcement yesterday, BYU’s leading rusher, Harvey Unga, is said to be withdrawing from the university for violating the school’s honor code. Coincidentally, Unga’s girlfriend and BYU basketball player, Keilani Moeaki, is also voluntarily withdrawing from the university for the same reason. The school’s honor code is very strict when it comes to alcohol, tobacco and premarital sex and any violation could result in strict sanctions. The two athletes...

Mountain West 3-0 So Far In Bowl Games

The Mountain West Conference is 3-0 so far in bowl games and have 2 more teams left to play. Bowl teams from the Mountain West have been playing with a big chip on their shoulder and they are using the bowl games to show the country what their teams are capable of. Wyoming, BYU, and Utah have each won their bowl games (2 against Pac-10 opponents) and are commanding respect along the way. Air Force and TCU play at...

Jacobson Sidelined For Cougs’

BYU wideout McKay Jacobson will miss 4-6 for the Cougars with a strained hamstring. Jacobson suffered the injury during warm-ups before BYU’s game against Utah State on Saturday. An MRI was done and confirmed that it was a high hamstring heal, which generally takes a while to heal. In Jacobson’s absence, BYU will look to Luke Ashworth, and O’Neill Chambers to bear the load at WR. In 4 games this season, Jacobson has 280 yards and 3 TDs.

Bradford in a sling, BYU wins 14-13

Not only did BYU shock the #3 Oklahoma Sooners 14-13, but this crushing blow could prove to be worse as Sam Bradford went down in the second quarter when BYU defender Coleby Clawson leveled him. The clean hit caused Bradford to sprain his throwing shoulder and sidelined him for the remainder of the game. The Sooners, without their Heisman Trophy winner, proved to be very anemic on offense. Back-up QB Landry Jones stepped in but could not drive the...
