Former BYU defensive lineman and Washington Redskin alum Jason Buck can “no longer stand by while Barack Obama…destroys the fabric of our government.” With Buck’s strong statements bashing the administration’s lavish spending, the All-American linebacker announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District to tackle Obama’s free spending.
Buck wants a leaner government that is “pro-family and fiscally sound.” Buck will have to face-off against a litany of fellow conservatives for the GOP nomination. Earlier in the decision process, he was contemplating running for either the 2nd or 4th District, but his team figured his best shot at garnering a seat was in the 2nd District. Oddly enough, Buck is a resident of the 3rd District and has no actual ties to the 2nd or the 4th.
Buck was one the nation’s top lineman in the mid-80’s taking home All-American honors and the Outland Trophy for the Cougars. Though he played primarily for the Cincinnati Bengals during his NFL days, he was part of the 1992 Washington Redskins Super Bowl championship team. He still has close ties to football as he currently owns the Arena Football League’s Utah Blaze and his son, Tyson Buck, is a linebacker for the University of Utah Utes.
This is not the first time gridiron greats traded in their cleats for a seat on Capitol Hill.
