Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football?

When the topic of overrated college football coaches comes up, names such as Jim Tressel, Mark Richt, Rich Rodriguez and Les Miles are often tossed around. Out of these four coaches, two, (Tressel and Miles) have a BCS National Championship trophy to show. However, Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz is rarely mentioned in such conversations. Why is this? I get that he and Iowa have always been media darlings, and I understand his Hawkeyes have been the proverbial fly in the ointment for Penn State...

Will there be an exodus from Troy?

In the aftermath of the fall of Troy, the NCAA cleared the way for USC juniors and seniors to-be to transfer from the team without being forced to sit out a season. Schools are now free to initiate contact with such players who fall into this category. The NCAA rule allows for a waiver to be granted if the school has a postseason ban in place during the transfer. Unfortunately, this rule does not apply to USC freshman who have recently...

Mountain West flirts with Boise State

Lost in all of the recent Big Ten/SEC/Pac-10/Big XII conference expansion noise, is Boise State and the Mountain West Conference’s (MWC) courting of the Broncos. Boise State could be the first school to bolt for greener pastures if they accept the rumored MWC invite next month during conference president meetings. While everyone is focusing on the four power college football conferences and their potential expansions, a situation is brewing out west that could be the first shot fired in...

It’s a completely different animal

The buzz is in the air and time seems to be moving at a snails pace as we wait for tonight’s championship basketball game featuring heavily favored Duke v. Butler. In the meantime, Duke’s longtime coach (and rumored to be courted by the Nets) Mike Krzyzewski had a few things to say about the Bowl Championship Series in comparison to March Madness. Coach K believes that a team like Butler would never make it to the championship game in...

Can Boise State contend for the 2011 BCS National Title?

Listen to the Bible

We all know everything is bigger and better in Texas and it’s easy to forget that big mouths also come from the South. Texas’ star recruit, Taylor Bible who is still in high school and is actually known to be more of the quiet type, vowed that the Longhorns will win the next four Red River Shootouts and four BCS Titles. That is quite a big prediction for the 6’3 278 pound defensive lineman who plans on enrolling this...

For the Glory

Well it looks like signing day has come and gone. Aside from a few holdouts such as Seantrel Henderson (who is holding out on USC until the NCAA concludes its investigation), most teams have their recruiting class all lined up. Depending on which rating scale you prefer, the top ten schools should come to no surprise–Florida, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and USC all had strong showings and late moves. Penn State, Auburn and Washington also picked up some highly talented...
