Boise State sets sights on 2011 BCS National Championship Game

For the past few seasons, Cinderella has been living in Boise, Idaho. Boise State has been the Madonna of the college football world for the last 4 seasons, you either love them or hate them. But beware Bronco haters, a heavy dose of Boise State love is in store for the 2010 college football season as they’ll more than likely enter the season in the top 5 of the AP poll.

Boise State  finished their 2009 campaign with a thrilling Fiesta Bowl victory against previously undefeated TCU, propelling BSU to a 14-0 season record. While no one can argue that finishing undefeated is anything short of impressive, many skeptics pointed to Boise’s strength of schedule, or lack thereof, as a reason for concern. Even though the boys in blue pointed to wins against Pac-10 champs Oregon, and TCU, their legitimacy as a national power was still questioned. Be that as it may, Boise’s proved themselves time and time again over the years, and 2010 may be the year that voters finally give them their chance to dance on the big stage.

Boise State returns everyone from last season except all-WAC cornerback Kyle Wilson. Let me repeat that again, they return everyone from last year’s squad save Wilson. In the 14 games that the Broncos played last season, only one was decided by single digit numbers, a 28-21 win at Tulsa.

After growing tired of being passed over the past few years for bigger name schools, Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier added Virgina Tech and Oregon State to the 2010 schedule. The Virgina Tech game (Sept. 6) will be the season opener that has the Broncos  travelling across the country to meet the Hokies in Washington, DC. Oregon State travels to Boise on Sept. 25 for battle on the blue turf. If the Broncos can win those two big games, in addition to their annual conference slate of games, Boise State may be headed back to Glendale, Arizona, to play in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game.

Optimism abounds in the state of Idaho for this upcoming football season. Anything short of the national title game will be disappointing for the Broncos and their fans.
