Mitch Mustain can’t catch a break

USC back-up QB Mitch Mustain cannot get confirmation from the team that he will start this week when the Fighting Irish travel to tinseltown for a classic college football rivalry. Starting QB Matt Barkley, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the first half of USC’s embarrassing loss to Oregon State last week, is listed as the starter despite being on crutches and in street clothes all this week. Even if Barkley does not practice this week, coach Kiffin...

Spiders lose heralded QB Aaron Corp

QB Aaron Corp’s future continues to be filled with uncertainty. The once named starter for SC back in 2009, transferred to Richmond during the off-season after being dethroned by current Trojan QB Matt Barkley. In 2010, Corp joined FCS Richmond and first-year coach Latrell Scott with the hopes of rebuilding a Spiders program that lost several key players from last year’s stellar 11-2 squad. Unfortunately, Corp’s modest start came to a sudden halt on Saturday after he suffered a...

Aaron Corp: Richmond’s new starter

Former SC Trojan and Villa Park native Aaron Corp has finally won the starting job at Richmond under 1st year head coach Latrell Scott. Corp, who is no stranger to QB battles, ousted sophomore John Laub in a tremendous QB competition. Corp, a red-shirt junior, transferred to Richmond after two seasons under Pete Carroll. It was anticipated that Corp would be the starter come 2009, but then-freshman Matt Barkley beat out Corp (who suffered a leg injury during preseason)....

Barkley still injured, Mustain waiting in the wings

SC’s Matt Barkley is having his right hand reexamined today after injuring it in Saturday’s spring game. During the 3rd quarter, Barkley struck DT Jurrell Casey’s helmet on his follow through. As a precautionary measure, Barkley was immediately taken out of the game to rest and ice his injured hand. Sheriff Lane Kiffin was displeased with the injury and tossed Casey out of the game for his aggressive play. Though we do not know the extent of Barkley’s injury, it...

Same Aaron, different Corp

Spring practice is a bit different for former Southern Cal QB Aaron Corp who now takes snaps at Robins Stadium. Last season at this time, he was the projected starter for the top ranked Trojans. After a knee injury sidelined the gun-slinger for much of spring practice, Pete Carroll’s prodigy Matt Barkley took over the team and never looked back. Corp did have one opportunity to shine as a Trojan when he was given the nod to start for an...

Carroll to start injured Barkley

After a disheartening loss to Washington last weekend 13-16, Pete Carroll has had enough of Aaron Corp and will start QB Matt Barkley this Saturday. As Barkley takes snaps under center against Washington State, the question remains is he being thrown into the game prematurely? Carroll’s announcement seems a bit umbrageous, stating that Barkley’s bruised right shoulder has healed enough to put him back in the lineup. The phrase “has healed enough” should be a concern for fans and Barkley....

Corp May Start for Trojans on Saturday

USC sophomore QB Aaron Corp will more than likely start in place of Matt Barkley this Saturday when USC travels to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies. The Trojans are coming off of a huge road victory against Ohio State. Matt Barkley, USC’s starting quarterback, suffered a bruised right  shoulder last weekend against the Buckeyes and it is looking as if he will not see action this week. Corp and Barkley were involved in a heated QB competition...

The Matador’s Muse

It’s nice to see that 4 out of the top 10 biggest stadiums in the world are college football stadiums- 3 hail from the Big Ten. Aaron Corp is back on the field. The true fan is why we all love college football. In a cost cutting effort, the Pac-10 wants to prohibit schools from housing teams in hotels the night before the game. Tour the Big House. Ex-Husker Castille to play for Northwestern State. Leave your smokes at home and to you...
