JoePa continues to churn NFL caliber linebackers

Schools earn nicknames for a reason and anyone who follows college football knows where the greatest linebackers come to play ball. Penn State continued to showcase its “Linebacker U” status by having all three starting linebackers drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft. This marks 6 linebackers drafted in the past four drafts for JoePa. The first LB to go was Sean Lee in the 2nd round to the Dallas Cowboys (55th pick). LB Navorro Bowman was drafted in the...

Ron Zook’s secondary took a hit this weekend after CB Walter Aikens was nabbed for possession of stolen property in a sting operation. As a result of his arrest, the Illini scratched Aikens from today’s spring game and suspended him indefinitely. Early Friday morning, Aikens was arrested and charged with a Class 4 felony for his connection with the theft of electronic items from Snyder and Forbes Halls. An undercover officer arranged to purchase a laptop computer from Aikens. ...

Ragin’ Cajuns are a blazin

Four Ragin’ Cajuns were arrested earlier this week for the cultivation of marijuana on their apartment balcony, which happens to be a felony in Louisiana. According to a report, an anonymous tip from a resident in the players’ apartment complex led to the raid. Redshirt QB Blaine Gautier, redshirt CB Rodney Gillis, strong safety Devon Lewis-Buchanan, and safety Chris Richard have all been arrested and suspended from the program for their quest to grow ganja. Both sides of the...

Bush reaches settlement

We may never actually know what happened between Lloyd Lake and Reggie Bush. The former USC standout has settled his civil case and will no longer be deposed regarding cash and other benefits provided to him and his family while at USC. Lake was the financier of marketing agency New Era Sports and Entertainment. New Era is now defunct and Lloyd was seeking money allegedly paid to benefit Bush and his family during Bush’s Trojan days. Though there is...

Not a Love-ly spring game

The South Florida receiving corps suffered a major loss on Saturday. Senior WR A.J. Love tore his ACL in his right knee during USF’s spring game. There is no word yet if his South Florida playing days are over with, but Love is a competitor and it should not come as a surprise if he returns mid-season. We’ve seen Love has the ability to bounce back quickly as evidenced when he tore his ACL in his left knee during...

Zach will not be back

The depth chart for QB at the University of Georgia just got a little shorter on Sunday. Coach Mark Richt dismissed from the team troubled QB Zach Mettenberger. The redshirt freshman was poised to be the starter over Aaron Murray and Logan Gray, but now he will be lucky to graduate as a Bulldog. Mettenbeger has been in the doghouse with Coach Richt ever since he was arrested during spring break for underage drinking, disorderly conduct, and obstruction. As...

Caged Cougar freed

Was it alcohol, fornication, or both, who knows? In a surprising announcement yesterday, BYU’s leading rusher, Harvey Unga, is said to be withdrawing from the university for violating the school’s honor code. Coincidentally, Unga’s girlfriend and BYU basketball player, Keilani Moeaki, is also voluntarily withdrawing from the university for the same reason. The school’s honor code is very strict when it comes to alcohol, tobacco and premarital sex and any violation could result in strict sanctions. The two athletes...
