Four Ragin’ Cajuns were arrested earlier this week for the cultivation of marijuana on their apartment balcony, which happens to be a felony in Louisiana. According to a report, an anonymous tip from a resident in the players’ apartment complex led to the raid. Redshirt QB Blaine Gautier, redshirt CB Rodney Gillis, strong safety Devon Lewis-Buchanan, and safety Chris Richard have all been arrested and suspended from the program for their quest to grow ganja.
Both sides of the ball are affected by this incident. Lewis-Buchanan was a junior who was going to move to LB, Gillis played CB, Richard played safety, and Gautier was a back-up quarterback who redshirted his freshman year. Aside from Richard, the other three horticulturists were released on $20,000 bond.
For you JD wannabes, the Louisiana law for cultivation of weed with the intent to distribute less than 60 pounds of marijuana includes 5 to 30 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine. For 60 pounds to 2,000 pounds there is an additional fine of $50,000 to $100,000.
Basically, these four souls are in bad shape. It’s pretty safe to say, none of these four players will be playing college ball for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette anytime soon. Ironically, April 20th, the day of their arrest, was National Pot Smokers Day.
