The South Florida receiving corps suffered a major loss on Saturday. Senior WR A.J. Love tore his ACL in his right knee during USF’s spring game. There is no word yet if his South Florida playing days are over with, but Love is a competitor and it should not come as a surprise if he returns mid-season. We’ve seen Love has the ability to bounce back quickly as evidenced when he tore his ACL in his left knee during the 2008 St. Petersburg Bowl. Love fought through rehab and in 8 months he made it back on the field for the start of the 2009 season.
In 2009, Love was second in receptions (26) behind former teammate Carlton Mitchell’s 40 catches. Love was anticipated to be a key contributor to the Bulls’ offense which severely lacks depth. The concern now is whether or not Love will make it back on the field. At minimum, it takes 6 months to recover after ACL surgery. If the surgery goes as planned and Love fast tracks through rehab, there is a possibility he could be on the field by the second half of the season.
