The Golden Boy is a gimp?

Notre Dame’s victory over the Spartans (33-30) may prove to be more costly than originally thought. As The Matador reported earlier, Michael Floyd will miss the remainder of the season with a broken collar bone. Now there is question as to the extent of Jimmy Clausen’s toe injury. During the second quarter of Saturday’s game, Clausen took a bad sack and landed awkwardly on his right foot. Throughout the remainder of the game, he walked with a limp but was...

A Bull lost his legs

Matt Grothe will no longer lead the charge for the South Florida Bulls. During their total dominance over Charleston Southern (59-0), Grothe suffered an ACL tear. At first, Grothe’s injury was thought to be a knee sprain, but after further tests, his injury was diagnosed as an ACL tear. The loss really hurts the Bulls, Grothe is the leader of the squad and an irreplaceable player. With Gorthe going down, it will make winning the Big East title that...

Zebra trips CB, WR Scores

Not that Elon had a chance to beat Wake Forest today, but the Phoenix weren’t expecting the zebras to pitch in on behalf of the Demon Deacons.  In the second quarter of Wake’s 35-7 victory, WR Chris Givens was running a deep out with CB Karlos Sullivan keeping stride-for-stride with Givens. Then all of sudden, ooops, back judge Tommy Pace inadvertently tripped Sullivan. As Sullivan dropped, Givens stood wide-open and Riley Skinner hit Givens for a 54 yard touchdown...

Zips clip Jacquemain

The Akron Zips don’t usually make the headlines, but in a surprising and stunning move by coach J.D. Brookhart, starting QB Chris Jacquemain has been suspended for the classic “violation of team rules.” Of course, the school will not define what rules Jacquemain violated but we do know he is no stranger to suspension. In 2007, Jacquemain was also suspended, for you guessed it, violation of team rules. So far this season, Jacquemain started the first two games for...

Mouton Suspend for the Punch

The Matador just learned that the Big Ten conference is suspending Michigan’s Jonas Mouton for the punch that never occurred. Mouton allegedly punched the chin of lineman Eric Olson after the end of a play during the second quarter of the Michigan/Notre Dame game. The punishment, which is completely unwarranted, is for one game. Fortunately, this suspension will not really hurt the Wolverines as they face the perennial powerhouse Eastern Michigan Eagles this Saturday.  This tells me that the...

Tulane Gets Green Wave of Cash

It looks like LSU and Tulane are going to severe ties for a measly $700,000.00 as reported by the Times-Picayune. In an attempt to beef up its schedule, LSU is paying Tulane $700,000.00 to forgo the final 6 games of a 10 game home-and-home series. Originally, LSU wanted to play all the remaining games at Tiger Stadium, but Tulane wouldn’t agree to those terms. So instead of flexing its muscles on the field, LSU flexed its financial muscles off...

My money is on the ‘Cat$

The Matador will be watching the games this weekend with his brand new 50 inch plasma tv thanks to Tulsa. As predicted, Tulsa easily covered the spread against New Mexico. The Matador is 1-0 and wants to keep the streak alive. This Saturday’s lock is Northwestern (-3) over Syracuse. Northwestern comes to the Carrier Dome to face a winless Orange team. The Orange have lost to two Big 10 teams thus far agaisnt Minnesota and at Penn State. Northwestern is 2-0 beating Towson and edging out...
