Beamer Bails

Virgina Tech football received a crushing blow this past week. No, no members of the football team were arrested, but rather, head coach Frank Beamer tore his bicep after falling while exiting Va. Tech’s private plane upon landing at a stop on  the team’s Orange and Maroon tour. Beamer, ever the good sport, laughed off the incident: “It just chucked me,” said Beamer, laughing. “I thought I was being careful and the next thing that hit was my shoulder...

FedEx Squeezed from BCS

FedEx announced today that it was ending it’s twenty-one year long sponsorship of the Orange Bowl. FedEx executives decided that it was not in the company’s best financial interest to continue sponsoring the bowl game. The change of heart from FedEx stems from the result of ESPN taking over broadcasting rights of BCS games from FOX Broadcasting Company beginning in 2011. ESPN purchased the BCS rights to sell sponsorship and advertising for the football games at the price of...

Hokie Nation Continues to Hate on Sean Glennon

Former Virginia Tech QB Sean Glennon has seen some ups and downs during his collegiate career. He went from being named MVP of the 2007 ACC championship game to riding the pine during his final game in the 2008 Orange Bowl. He took the reverse path from what most QBs take. In 2006 he threw for an impressive 2,191 yards; in 2007, his passing numbers dropped to 1,796; and in 2008, his passing yards plummeted to 743 total yards while...

Tennessee safety Eric Berry announced Thursday night that he will be leaving UT early for the NFL. Berry made the announcement shortly after Virgina Tech steamrolled the Vols 37-14. The 2009 Jim Thorpe trophy winner has had an illustrious collegiate career and leaves Tennessee as arguably their best defensive player ever. While Tennessee will most definitely miss...

VaTech’s secondary gets a little weaker

Virginia Tech is in the Christmas spirit by giving Tennessee a weaker secondary for the Chick-fil-A-Bowl. The school announced that starting cornerback Stephan Virgil will be sidelined for the bowl game. Unfortunately, his grades were not up to par so he was declared academically ineligible for any post season play. What makes matters worse for Virgil, he is a senior so his collegiate career is now officially over. In place of Virgil, sophomore Eddie Whitley will get the starting nod.

A slap in the face for TCU and Boise State

Mangino’s replacement has huge pants to fill

In the wake of what would have been a nasty investigation of alleged physical and verbal abuse of his players, Kansas football coach Mark Mangino officially resigned today ending his eight year tenure as head coach. Mangino proclaims his innocence and insists he has done nothing outside the scope of his coaching duties. Whatever the case, Mangino and Kansas reached an amicable settlement (around the neighborhood of $6 million) to compensate for Mangino’s early departure. Mangino took over as...
