‘Cuse to move forward without WR Mike Williams

This just in, Syracuse’s WR Mike Williams has quit the team. Throughout his roller coaster career at Syracuse, he has always been the Orange’s #1 receiver with sure hands. After missing last season because of academic reasons, he returned this season in true form. Before he quit the team, he was the leading receiver (even with a game suspension) with 49 receptions for 746 yards and six touchdowns. The Orange are already in an offensive slump and with the absence of Williams, Greg...

Top WR suspended

Syracuse won convincingly today over Akron 28-14. If you noticed on the stat sheet, there was no Mike Williams. Apparently, Williams was suspended from the game for violation of team rules. The Orange didn’t elaborate or offer any other details. For you remaining Syracuse fans, Williams is the top offensive threat for the Orange. He has amassed 712 yards and 6 TDs in 45 catches for the season.

‘Cuse’s offense doesn’t exist, how long will Paulus?

It’s not looking good for Syracuse fans midway through the season. The Orange are 2-4 and 0-2 in conference play. The offense is struggling and most notably the team cannot convert on third down. The QB play is also questionable as Greg Paulus has thrown 6 INTs in the past 2 games. Most recently against the Mountaineers, Paulus played so poorly that he was benched in the second half of the 34-13 defeat. Nevertheless, coach Doug Marrone has confidence in his...

My money is on the ‘Cat$

The Matador will be watching the games this weekend with his brand new 50 inch plasma tv thanks to Tulsa. As predicted, Tulsa easily covered the spread against New Mexico. The Matador is 1-0 and wants to keep the streak alive. This Saturday’s lock is Northwestern (-3) over Syracuse. Northwestern comes to the Carrier Dome to face a winless Orange team. The Orange have lost to two Big 10 teams thus far agaisnt Minnesota and at Penn State. Northwestern is 2-0 beating Towson and edging out...

LB Bowman sits against the Orange

Linebacker U will be without one of the best LBs in the nation in Navorro Bowman. Bowman suffered a groin injury early in the season opener against Akron. For precautionary reasons, JoePa is going to sideline the stud LB and start redshirt sophomore Nathan Stupar. Whichever LB is plugged-in to fill the void, playing against Syracuse won’t make much of a difference. The Orange don’t have enough firepower on offense to make a dent in the strong Nittany Lions...

Paulus Gets a “C”

Greg Paulus must be a special person. Not only was he named the starting quarterback last week for the Orange, but the team just voted Paulus as one of four team captains. Paulus is no stranger to the responsibilities of being captain as he was an All-American two time captain for Coach K and Duke. Paulus is clearly making a solid impression with his coaches and teammates and is taking advantage of his final year of college eligibility. From...

Greg’s Back

Former Duke point guard, and emotional leader, Greg Paulus was named the Syracuse starting QB earlier today. The 2005 Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year, was a football and basketball  phenom at Christian Brothers Academy (NY) and was heavily recruited by top division 1 programs in both sports. He chose Duke and played basketball for the Blue Devils. Paulus graduated from Duke this year and made it known that he wanted to continue his football career. After considering a few schools,...

LB Hines turns in his locker key

Doug Marrone is facing a daunting challenge as head coach of Syracuse. It appears his challenge just got a little harder. This past week, JUCO transfer Derek Hines unexpectedly packed up his bags and left the program after four practices. The school did not release why he left, but some say he misses his hometown of Orange, California which doesn’t compare to the likes of downtown Syracuse. Hines was a projected starter at weakside linebacker. This presents problems, as...
