Former Syracuse Media Director Receives Probation

In a shameful, embarrassing and disturbing act, former Syracuse media director, Roger Springfield, was sentenced to five years’ probation for secretly videotaping more than 100 male athletes in the Carrier Dome’s locker rooms.  Springfield was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty earlier this year to second-degree unlawful surveillance, a Class E felony, for hiding cameras in locker rooms to record football, lacrosse and soccer players undressing.    As a result of the plea, the district attorney requested that Springfield, who’s...

NY cemetery fumbles then recovers Ernie Davis football

An official from an upstate New York cemetery reported last week that someone stole a football from the grave of Ernie Davis, the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy.  The cemetery is now reporting that the football was recovered over the weekend about 50 yards from Davis’ grave. Last summer, an unknown individual paid tribute to Davis by displaying a football at the headstone of Davis’ grave.  However, officials have reported on multiple occasions that the football...

Addazio to Temple, a good fit?

Florida OC Steve Addazio was successful at Florida, but can he replicate his offensive ingenuity as a head coach at Temple? Temple made a bold move with the hiring of Steve Addazio, but is he the right man for the job? There is no question that Addazio has good pedigree and brings unparalleled coaching experience to Temple; however, Temple fans better be patient, because it’s a lot easier to accomplish great things when you are backed by a school rich in...

Orange linebacker Cater arrested, off team

Another “snatch and grab” plays victim to the Syracuse Orange. Freshman linebacker Malcolm Cater was kicked-off the team this weekend for burglary, grand larceny, and petit larceny. Over the weekend, Cater was seen by several witnesses carrying a flat-screen television at 3 a.m. to his 120 Lamreth Lane apartment. A witness was suspicious and contacted the...

The Orange lose WR Weaver

Syracuse (1-1) football seems to be stuck in a never ending tailspin. The latest bad news for the Orange is wide receiver Aaron Weaver will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. The senior wide out injured his right knee during Tuesday’s practice in a non-contact drill. Weaver was a transfer from Hofstra University (Hofstra dropped football in 2009) who quickly rose to the top of the depth chart with his solid hands. Coach Doug...

The Orange get some fresh pulp

‘Cuse fans got some comforting news today as star running back Delone Carter returns to the field as Syracuse kicks-off preseason practice. Carter was suspended back in April for his involvement in an on campus one-punch brawl with a fellow student in late February. With his misdemeanor assault charges pending, there was doubt about Carter’s future. Fortunately for Carter, Syracuse began practice. With the lack of quality players, coach Doug Marrone quickly realized that he is short in the...

Paulus is confident he could take down Clausen, et al.

Greg Paulus was most recently featured on the Dan Patrick Show. For about 10 minutes, Patrick, in true form, blitzed Paulus about both basketball and football. He was pushing Paulus to see if he would say anything negative about Coach K and Duke. He even put Paulus on the spot by asking who has a better basketball team, Syracuse or Duke. But the real interest was his response about whether or not he is a better QB than Tim Tebow, Sam...

Marrone’s woes grow

If it weren’t for bad luck, Syracuse would have none. Doug Marrone not only saw 21 players leave the program in his first season as head coach, but so far he has lost seven players to season ending injuries. It looks like that number is going to grow by two. Today, Marrone announced that sophomore kick returner Mike Jones and senior snapper/TE Dalton Phillips are both done for the season as a result of injuries sustained during the Louisville...
