PSU’s Blue-White game to air on ESPN2

For all you Nittany Lion fans, ESPN2 is providing a little treat for the blue and white. Earlier this month, ESPN2 finalized a deal to air Penn State’s Blue-White game on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The game is free and open to the public, but if you can’t make it to Happy Valley, you can watch it from the comfort of your own home. However, I encourage all to go, as it’s quite the experience to hangout with 70,000...

The times have changed for the Big 10

“The SEC has a lot more speed-type people. They (the Big Ten) have a lot more big guys. We’ve got great receivers and running backs to try to take advantage of something Penn State doesn’t have.” LSU QB Jordan Jefferson prior to PSU’s speed and defense dominating the game. As the bowl season is coming to an end, the most impressive and improved performance by any conference as a whole was the Big 10. As of late, the conference...

Penn State will cruise to victory

This has been a rough season for The Matador going 5-5 on his weekly picks. It’s going to change as we inch closer to the regular season’s end. The lock of the week is Penn State (-3) over Michigan State. Penn State has all the drive in the world to win this game big. The Nittany Lions undeservedly have the opportunity to get a BCS at-large bid with a victory. Since Ohio State locked up the Rose Bowl, two...

JoePa says no need for a special teams coach

For those of you who witnessed Ohio State’s trouncing of the Nittany Lions this past Saturday 24-7, there was one obvious factor that plagued Penn State–FIELD POSITION. Penn State found itself on their side of the 50 for almost every offensive series. This poor field position can be blamed on one thing, special teams. Penn State’s special teams is sub-part at best. Among 120 D-1 football teams, PSU is a paltry 115th in net punting (31.7) yards. This horrible punting...

LB Lee ruled out again

It’s been almost 3 weeks since we last saw LB Sean Lee on the field when the Nittany Lions decimated the Temple Owls 31-6. With the win, Lee suffered a left knee injury. At first, it didn’t appear to be too serious, but now, it looks like Joe Paterno is going to keep out his star LB for another game-his third straight. Fortunately, the Nittany Lions are playing powerhouse (hahaha) Eastern Illinois, so pretty much every start won’t really...

Lee doubtful against Illinois

Penn State’s star LB Sean Lee is still doubtful for this Saturday’s match-up against Illinois. He is currently rehabbing his injured knee from the Temple game. Even if he gets back to 100% by Saturday, he will not be in game shape because of the long layoff. However, if Lee plays or not, it shouldn’t be too much of a concern as PSU’s defense is playing great ball considering its youth and on-going injury problems. What should concern the Nittany Lions is their...

PSU LB Mauti down with a Knee Injury

The Nittany Lions are down a LB. Sophomore LB Michael Mauti may have torn his ACL during a scrimmage this past Sunday. The injury occurred at Beaver Stadium while Mauti was pursuing running back Brandon Beachum on a sweep play. Mauti went to cut after Beachum, and he tangled his knee causing the injury. Today, Mauti will go through further testing, to include an MRI, to determine his exact injury. If in fact it is a tear, Mauti will...
