LB Mike Mauti (#42) will miss the 2009 season with a knee injury

LB Mike Mauti (#42) has suffered a knee injury during practice

The Nittany Lions are down a LB. Sophomore LB Michael Mauti may have torn his ACL during a scrimmage this past Sunday. The injury occurred at Beaver Stadium while Mauti was pursuing running back Brandon Beachum on a sweep play. Mauti went to cut after Beachum, and he tangled his knee causing the injury.

Today, Mauti will go through further testing, to include an MRI, to determine his exact injury. If in fact it is a tear, Mauti will be forced to miss the entire season.

Last season, Mauti played in all 13 games as a true freshman with 25 tackles and a forced fumble. Fortunately, Penn State is very deep at the LB position and the team has strong reserves to fill-in for Mauti.
