In The Midst Of A Free Agency Frenzy, Penn State Lands Recruit

Despite the crippling penalties aimed at bringing Penn State football to a crawl, the Nittany Lion coaching staff added its first prospect post-NCAA sanctions to its 2012 class.  Linebacker Brennan Franklin, who hails from Arizona’s Peoria Centennial High, committed to Penn State earlier this week. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound inside linebacker is leaving for Happy Valley today.  The coaching staff, the presence of team unity, and a chance to be part of something special undoubtedly convinced Franklin to play ball...

Tom Bradley takes the reins at Penn State

With Joe Paterno’s abrupt firing, the board of trustees appointed defensive coordinator Tom Bradley as interim head coach for the Nittany Lions effective immediately. Bradley’s routes are embedded in Pennsylvania as he was both a graduate of Penn State and played defensive back for Paterno in the late 1970’s. Ever since he graduated, he remained by Paterno’s side. He was a graduate assistant (1979), then promoted to assistant (1980-1999), then in 2000 was named the defensive coordinator to replace...

Joe Paterno once turned down job offer from Al Davis

As college and NFL teams paid tribute to the passing of NFL legendary owner Al Davis this past weekend, Penn State’s Joe Paterno addressed his relationship with his fellow Brooklyn native. During a post-game interview after Saturday’s defensive win over conference nemesis Iowa 13-3, Paterno reflected on the passing of Davis stating, “he was a tough guy. I am sorry to see him go.” Most don’t realize but when Davis became Oakland’s head coach in 1963, he offered Paterno...

Word on the street is Pitt found its new head coach to replace the abruptly fired Mike Haywood with the hiring of Penn State staple and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley. Two Penn State players received text messages from Bradley that suggested he was offered the job and will ultimately take it once the contractual terms are ironed out. Bradley was...

The man behind the Nittany Lion mask, dismissed

There are many true freshman making an impact on the gridiron for the Nittany Lions. However, one former true freshman is no longer welcomed on the Beaver Stadium sidelines. Nittany Lion mascot and gymnast Clint Gyory, the first true freshman to win the rights to be the Nittany Lion mascot, has been permanently relieved of his mascot duties and stripped from his scholarship. Gyroy’s issues first became public when he was issued citations in August 2010 for underage drinking, public drunkenness,...

Failing to Make the Grade: Penn State’s Offense

The first half of the season has been a blink of an eye for most programs; however, it has been a drawn-out yawner for Nittany Lions fans. With a sputtering offense (ranked 107th in scoring) and virtually no ground game (ranked 85th in rushing), the Nittany Lions are welcoming a much needed bye week. After opening the first half of the season with a disappointing 3-3 record and posting its first consecutive 20 point losses since the 1980’s, there...

The Florida Citrus Bowl is getting a new look. The Orlando City council voted yesterday to approve dealings with AstroTurf that will bid farewell to grass and hola to turf. While the move is not yet final, all signs point to this measure being approved and turf being installed at the Orlando staple before the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl. This news shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone after watching last year’s Captial One Bowl game between LSU and...
