USF coach Jim Leavitt is in the news again for one of his infamous choke jobs. This time it is not on the football field, but rather, the locker room. According to plaintiff Joel Miller and several witnesses, Leavitt struck Miller twice in the face while grabbing his neck. If true, these charges may be enough to send South Florida’s only coach packing.
This story has taken more twists than a General Hospital episode since being reported yesterday. Miller and his father originally contended that the incident happened during USF’s November 21st. home game against Louisville during halftime. Miller even went as far as to say that Leavitt threatened him when he was approached about what had transpired. Today, Miller’s father, who was initially incensed over the incident, claims that the whole thing was a simple misunderstanding and that Leavitt did not in fact lay hands on his son.
“I’m appalled at it. It’s absolutely not true,” Leavitt told the newspaper. “It’s so far out there. I’m very disappointed something like this would be written.” One can only guess as to what really transpired between the two parties. This thing is getting really interesting to say the least. USF definitely does not need this distraction as they are preparing for a January 5th. International Bowl date with Northern Illinois.
