Jim Leavitt, $2.75 million dollars later

Yesterday, South Florida officials disappointingly dropped a $2.75 million dollar ball. If you don’t recall, former Bulls head coach Jim Leavitt was relieved of his duties back in January 2010, after allegations of player abuse. When the school completed its investigation, the top brass concluded Leavitt should be fired for choking, slapping and berating a player, walk-on Joel Miller, during halftime of the November 21st Louisville game. Well Leavitt, in his backwards thinking, thought he was wrongfully terminated and did...

Is Kirk Ferentz the most overrated coach in college football? Pt. 2

The first part of this Iowa news series received such a warm reception by Hawkeye Nation, hopefully part two promises more of the same. Apparently, Hawkeye football in Iowa is more popular than corn subsidies. Iowans from Sioux City to Waterloo either left comments or shot-off emails, sticking up for their head coach, with some using a few choice words to do so.  Nonetheless, I would not expect any different from any true college football fan in coming to the aid and defense of their...

Let the Litigation Begin

Disgraced University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt is suing his former employer in an attempt to retrieve $7M from his now voided contract. Leavitt and his attorney, Will Florin, filed the 53 page lawsuit in the Hillsborough County Circuit Court last week under the grounds that he was wrongfully terminated by USF. The lawsuit contends that the school’s investigation was “biased, flawed, and legally unsupportable”. Leavitt was fired by USF in January after sources leaked that he physically assaulted one...

Leavitt jabs at possible NFL career?

At least one of three college coaches fired this season for mistreatment of players can be found this week at the Senior Bowl. Former USF coach Jim Leavitt packed his bags for Mobile, Alabama earlier this week in hopes of gaining employment. He is there to support his former players chasing the NFL dream, George Selvie, Nate Allen and Jerome Murphy, and he is attending both the North and the South practices for networking purposes. The Senior Bowl...

Leavitt Chokes Again

USF coach Jim Leavitt is in the news again for one of his infamous choke jobs. This time it is not on the football field, but rather, the locker room. According to plaintiff Joel Miller and several witnesses, Leavitt struck Miller twice in the face while grabbing his neck.  If true, these charges may be enough to send South Florida’s only coach packing. This story has taken more twists than a General Hospital episode since being reported yesterday. Miller and...

RB Taylor Injured

South Florida lost junior RB Jamar Taylor to an MCL injury during preseason practice. The Bulls have not disclosed the severity of the injury; however, during Fan Fest, Taylor was on crutches and had his right knee wrapped on ice. Coach Jim Leavitt stated that the team will not know the exact extent of the injury until Monday. Either way, this could be a significant hit to the offense, as Taylor was fighting for the starting spot. Last season...
