Charlie Strong Nets a Huge Raise

In return for Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals dismantling the Florida Gators 33-23 in the 2013 All-State Sugar Bowl, the university is rewarding the head coach handsomely. The school agreed to a long-term contract with Strong that makes him one of the highest paid D1 football coaches in the nation. While there has been a whirlwind of coaches being fired as of late, Strong inked an eight-year deal worth $3.7 million per year plus incentives up to $583,333...

College football’s 10 most promising newcomers for 2011

College football is an incredibly difficult game to master. With the speed, strength and complexity of the schemes, it’s unreasonable to expect a first-year player to make an immediate impact. But, when a freshman or JUCO transfer can productively fill a position of need, it can catapult his team to a different level. Before last season, few college football fans knew about Cam Newton — a year later, Auburn is the defending national champion and Carolina Panthers fans are...

Locker room fight leads to assault charges

Back in October, Louisville’s Jacob and Isaac Geffrad thought it best to beat the crap out of fellow teammate Patrick Grant after a hard day’s practice. Apparently the locker room scuffle turned violent when players began accusing each other that they weren’t practicing hard enough. At one point, Isaac held down Patrick in LAPD fashion while Jacob practiced his best Manny Pacquiao combinations on Patrick’s head. After the fight, if you want to call it a fight, Grant was...

Jim Leavitt, $2.75 million dollars later

Yesterday, South Florida officials disappointingly dropped a $2.75 million dollar ball. If you don’t recall, former Bulls head coach Jim Leavitt was relieved of his duties back in January 2010, after allegations of player abuse. When the school completed its investigation, the top brass concluded Leavitt should be fired for choking, slapping and berating a player, walk-on Joel Miller, during halftime of the November 21st Louisville game. Well Leavitt, in his backwards thinking, thought he was wrongfully terminated and did...

So you think you can dance?

The Beef O’Brady Bowl featuring Louisville and Southern Mississippi just got a little more interesting. Yesterday, during the informal Beach Bash dance competition at the Tradewinds Island Resort, a huge brawl almost ensued between the two teams. During a friendly poolside dance-off, a Louisville player, who was presumably a better break dancer than any of the Golden Eagles, started poking fun at Southern Mississippi, their horrible dancing, and the fact that they play in the inferior Conference USA. Of...

Boise State and Georgia to meet in Atlanta next season

Next year’s Chick-fil-A kickoff game will feature Boise State and Georgia. The two teams agreed terms to play in Atlanta on September 3, 2011. The game will be Boise’s second season-opener that the team will play on the road. Boise faced Virgina Tech earlier this season at Landover, MD’s, FedEx Field. Boise was originally scheduled to travel to Oxford, MS, to play the Ole Miss Rebels, but dropped them from the schedule for Georgia. The two schools rescheduled their meeting for the...

Pittsburgh shuts down Louisville

Pittsburgh (5-3, 3-0) remains undefeated in Big East play after an impressive 20-3 victory over the Louisville Cardinals (4-4, 1-2) this afternoon. The Panthers defensive performance was stellar and pressured Louisville’s QB Adam Froman for four solid quarters. Pittsburgh’s Tino Sunseri was held without a passing TD, but did go 13 for 24 amassing 123 yards and spreading the ball to 7 different receivers. RBs Dion Lewis and Ray Graham combined for 115 yards and 2 TDs. The game...

New Message for Cardinals Johnny Patrick: no texting when with G/F

Louisville’s star CB Johnny Patrick was reminded today that you never argue with your girlfriend even if you know you are right. Back on June 27th, Patrick’s girlfriend slipped and fell while struggling to grab his cell phone to see his text messages. As a result of the fall, she hit a table injuring her knees and elbows. Despite the fit of domestic rage, Patrick contacted emergency personnel because he was concerned about her well-being. Upon arrival, his girlfriend...
