Northern Illinois alum and former NFL WR Sam Hurd indicted

Former Northern Illinois and NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd was indicted earlier this week and was named the ringleader of a drug-dealing network spanning from Texas to Illinois. The indictment was handed up to a grand jury on January 4, 2012 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The internet was a buzz regarding potential coaching rumors to replace ousted Minnesota coach Tim Brewster. It appears the university has tempered those rumors and will name Northern Illinois’ Jerry Kill as the next head coach of the Golden Gophers on Monday. “O Canada,” forget it, no one cares

Not that this should come to a surprise to college football fans, but the International Bowl committee has decided to end the chapter in another meaningless bowl.  Since the committee failed to renew its contract with the Big East, it decided to close the doors. USF coach Jim Leavitt is in the news again for one of his infamous choke jobs. This time it is not on the football field, but rather, the locker room.
