Vandy starting defensive end Steve Stone will be sidelined for 6 weeks with  a broken foot. Stone has been a staple on the Vanderbilt D line as he’s started every game for the ‘Dores the past two seasons. He tied for a team best sack total with 5 last season. Vandy will miss his presence on the defensive side of the ball and they’re hoping that they can have him back in time for their October 17th meeting with Georgia.

Mike Gundy has issued a gag order for his Cowboys squad. Gundy has laid down the law and is not allowing the media to speak to his team and vise versa for the next 10 days. USC’s starting center Kristopher O’ Dowd, dislocated his right kneecap during a Trojan scrimmage on Monday. The 2008  All Pac-10  Center is expected to undergo an MRI at some point this week which will help to determine a timetable for his return. O’ Dowd  suffered the same type of injury to his left kneecap in 2007 that forced him to miss 4 games.

Miami starting RB Graig Cooper is the latest Miami Hurricane to fall victim to injury. Cooper was hurt during the Canes’ practice on Monday with a right leg injury and was wearing a protective boot on his right foot yesterday. As of now the severity of his injury is still unknown. Cooper has been a solid rushing threat (841 yds. in 2008) for the Canes and the hope in Coral Gables is that he’ll be healthy sooner than later. Clemson announced today that redshirt freshman Kyle Parker will start at quarterback for the Tigers. Parker competed with Wille Korn for the starting job during the spring in a tight race that left many fans unsure of who would get the nod. Former Duke point guard, and emotional leader, Greg Paulus was named the Syracuse starting QB earlier today. The 2005 Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year, was a football and basketball  phenom at Christian Brothers Academy (NY) and was heavily recruited by top division 1 programs in both sports. Oregon State WR Darrell Catchings will miss the 2009 college football season with a hand injury. The 5’11, 173 lb. junior was expected to play a huge role in Oregon State’s receiving corp that is very thin after losing key players to graduation.
