USC incoming freshman Frankie Telfort’s college football career is over before it had a chance to begin. The Trojan was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition known to be one of the leading causes of death for athletes. This spring, Rivals.com had Telfort listed as the #8 linebacker in the country and he was expected to compete for a position at LB or safety. It seems as if Army and the Yankees are starting a new trend. ESPN reports that talks are underway between Northwestern and Illinois that would move their yearly game to Chicago’s Wrigley Field as early as next season.  Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald and Illinois’s Ron Zook are both optimistic and excited about the possibility of the change of venue. Nate Montana, the son of former Notre Dame and San Francisco great Joe Montana, has decided to leave Notre Dame for Pasadena City College. However, he intends to return to Notre Dame next spring and compete again for the quarterback job. Montana walked on to Notre Dame’s football team  but was not expected to get many reps at QB during practice this fall. First year Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin is in the news again for justifying negative off-season remarks he’s made about fellow conference coaches since being hired. On Saturday, July 25th, at 3AM US EST, Holtz will lead Notre Dame stars of yesterday into the Tokyo Dome for a gridiron battle against Team Japan in The Japan Bowl. According to the New York Daily News, the NCAA and Yankee officials are in talks to possibly bring a bowl game to the new Yankee Stadium as early as the 2011 college football season. This comes on the heels of Army announcing that they will play four regular season games between 2010 and 2014 at the same venue.
