Kragthorpe gets the boot

The unemployment rate in Louisville just increased by one today as Louisville fired head coach Steve Kragthorpe. This should come as no surprise seeing how Louisville finished the season with a 4-8 record after taking a beating against Rutgers 34-14 this past weekend. Kragthorpe lead the team to its worst season in over a decade and had a paltry 15-21 record in his three seasons after taking control upon the departure of Bobby Petrino in 2007. Kragthorpe may not...

#5 CINCINNATI (-20.5) 42 Illinois 16 Over/Under Total: 57.50 9:00 AM Pacific Time Friday, Nov-27 Cincinnati is unbeaten, but the Bearcats need to impress the voters if theyhave any chance of playing for the National Championship. Running up thescore on Illinois shouldn’t be much of a problem given how poor the Illini defense is and how good Cincinnati’s attack is. The Bearcats have averaged 7.6 yards per play this season (against teams that would allow 5.4 yppl toan average...

Animatronic Mascot?

Animatronic Mascot?

The Matador is a fan of animal rights just as much as the next guy, but a recent request by the beloved PETA is flat out absurd. In the wake of Georgia mascot UGA VII’s death, PETA has formally asked the university to honor UGA VII by choosing an animatronic or costumed mascot to represent the fallen bulldog. This request by PETA seems to undermine the entire rich tradition of the bulldog and all of Georgia’s spirit and pageantry...

WR Williams on track to face UCLA

As SC tries to salvage their disappointing 2009 campaign, there is some good news coming out of Los Angeles. WR Damian Williams, who missed the blowout loss to Stanford with an ankle sprain, has been practicing with the team and all signs are pointing to his return. Pete Carroll will not officially announce his status until later in the week when SC faces UCLA. The Trojans are in bad need of an offensive spark and Williams in the line-up...

Give me an S-M-A-C-K!

For those of you who were sitting in the southwest end of Arizona Stadium on Saturday, you probably got a good shot of some idiot Arizona fan who tagged Oregon cheerleader Katelynn Johnson in the head with a bottle causing her to collapse. As a result, she suffered a concussion and was transported to a nearby hospital. After the game, Arizona coach Mike Stoops contacted Oregon’s AD to express his concerns over Johnson and called the incident “disturbing.” One...

A black eye in South Bend

At this point, details are still sketchy but word is coming out of South Bend that our golden boy Jimmy Clausen was in an altercation outside C.J.’s Pub late Saturday night after the double overtime loss to UConn. Sources are saying that the heralded QB took a punch to the face which left a black eye. The school has yet to reveal any other details of the incident, but The Matador will be following through and providing updates.

Father knows best, sometimes

It’s going to be awfully quite at the Hawkins house this Thanksgiving season. Apparently after Dan Hawkins continues his unsuccessful run as a head coach, he’s decided to indirectly blame his son for the Buffs’ woes and their 3-8 season In a nutshell, Hawkins spoke out to the media saying he regretted bringing his son Cody Hawkins into the program because it just didn’t work out. If he had to do it again, coach said he wouldn’t have recruited...

Will it be Iowa or Penn State?

Will it be Iowa or Penn State?

The Big 10 regular season has just about come to an end but it certainly left an interesting dilemma for the BCS bowl committee. Basically, the Big 10 has three eligible teams for two BCS bids. Ohio State clinched the first bid with its automatic BCS Rose Bowl birth by winning the Big 10. This leaves Iowa and Penn State as the two remaining teams for one precious at-large birth. Iowa is currently ranked 11th and Penn State is ranked 13th after both completing their regular season...
