Jayhawks’ wings clipped

Kansas is down a star defensive tackle after Jamal Greene was arrested early Friday morning for unlawfully entering an off campus apartment and forcing the residents to lie down at gunpoint. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of this incident. After news of the armed robbery broke, head coach Turner Gill immediately dismissed Greene from the team.  Yesterday afternoon, AD Jim Marchiony confirmed Greene’s dismissal. This is a significant loss for the Jayhawks as defensive coordinator Carl...

UNLV coach gets drunk, makes bad decisions

Former University of Colorado LB (1997-99) and current UNLV assistant football coach (for now) Tyler Gregorak was charged Thursday with theft and trespassing. Earlier this month, the 31 year old kleptomaniac robbed a strip club bouncer who failed to let Gregorak into the Nitro strip club on Pearl Street because he was too drunk. In a fit of retaliation, Gregorak found the bouncer’s car, broke in, and took his wallet and a loaded .45 caliber Glock 36 gun. After...

Is the eye of the Hurricane approaching South Bend?

Notre Dame football has not been the money maker it used to be. Their lack of quality bowls and the team’s poor performance this past decade has negatively impacted their NBC ratings and viewing audiences. The school is also taking a financial hit as former coaches Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis are still on the payroll per their buyout agreements. In order to cure this financial downfall and to boost the school’s potential to make more money, the AD is looking...

There is Hope for Siller

Some good news is coming out of West Lafayette, Indiana, as Purdue reinstated QB Justin Siller after serving a one year suspension for academic violations. With the QB competition between Robert Marve and Caleb TerBush heating up, you can bet Siller will return to the team as either a wide receiver or running back.  Siller has two years of eligibility remaining and should be a good fit for Danny Hope’s offense.  (check out your latest NCAA football odds). Siller returns to...

I lost my ride because I got high

Taking over the reins at Notre Dame was never going to be easy, and Brian Kelly’s players are not making his inaugural season any easier. The latest infraction occurred this past weekend when TE Mike Ragone was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana after being pulled over for speeding. Ragone, while driving with his girlfriend, was pulled over Saturday night by Indiana’s finest for driving 83 mph in a 70 mph zone. When the officer asked to see Ragone’s...

Player dies from head injury

Some tragic news is coming out of Portland, Oregon. On Sunday, Eastern Oregon’s Dylan Steigers died as a result of a head impact collision during the school’s scrimmage game. In the second to last play of the game, Steigers and other defenders dove to tackle the ball carrier. When Steigers got up, he walked over to the sideline, began vomiting, and suddenly needed emergency care. The athletic trainer immediately contacted 911 and Steigers was taken to Grande Ronde Hospital but eventually flown to...

Naval Academy torpedoes star back

The service academies clearly play by a different set of standards when it comes to player discipline. Navy’s head coach Ken Niumatalolo dismissed slotback Marcus Curry from the team for violation of team rules. Though Niumatalolo didn’t provide exact details of Curry’s dismissal, his dismissal was linked to his poor academic history, demerits, and most recently his drug use. Earlier this year, Curry violated the school’s drug policy when he tested positive for a controlled substance. Though the official...
