Taking over the reins at Notre Dame was never going to be easy, and Brian Kelly’s players are not making his inaugural season any easier. The latest infraction occurred this past weekend when TE Mike Ragone was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana after being pulled over for speeding.
Ragone, while driving with his girlfriend, was pulled over Saturday night by Indiana’s finest for driving 83 mph in a 70 mph zone. When the officer asked to see Ragone’s license and registration, a plume of the burning ganja struck the officer like a Mike Tyson knock-out punch. Upon inspecting Ragone, his girlfriend, and the car, the officer found two baggies of marijuana in his girlfriend’s purse. Ragone came clean, waived his rights, and admitted that the contraband belonged to him and not his girlfriend.
Ragone was a strong TE for the Irish and as a back-up played in all 12 games last season. Unfortunately, his arrest not only jeopardizes his status as a Notre Dame student, but his status as a player is now in question. Meanwhile, Kelly will have to dig deep on his player personnel list because after Kyle Rudolph, there are not a lot of experienced TE’s in the depth chart.
