Jabaal Sheard’s MMA case may be dropped

Earlier this month we reported that Pittsburgh’s star DE Jabaal Sheard was suspended from the team indefinitely as a result of him going MMA on a poor victim after downing some IC light in the bar district of South Side street. It now appears the prosecutor and victim are huge Panthers fans and want this case to disappear. Sheard’s preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for July 28th but was postponed until August 4th to allow more time to settle...

Rumph around the edges

Donte Rumph had a burning desire to play for the University of Kentucky from day one. The 6’3 265 pound All-State tackle from South Carolina first signed with Kentucky in 2008. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify academically. To improve his grades and hone his football skills, Rumph enrolled in the Christian military boarding school, Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA) in Virginia. Come 2009, Rumph reapplied to Kentucky only to find out that his grades fell short once again. Though his spirits were down,...

Washington State Cougar banned for substance abuse

Because Washington State football woes cannot seem to catch a break, it’s only fitting that defensive lineman Dan Spitz has been ruled ineligible for the first 9 games of the 2010 season. Spitz, a redshirt sophomore, must ride the pine after the NCAA determined he violated the banned substance abuse policy. Though the NCAA will not disclose the results of the test, use of stimulants, steroids, or other diuretics may trigger a positive result. Players are encouraged to consult...

A Dent in Georgia’s Defense

Senior LB Akeem Dent may be sidelined from the Bulldogs’ September 4th season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette as he is recovering from a left first toe injury. Last week, Dent injured his toe in an off the field incident. Earlier today, he underwent outpatient surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia to repair the damaged toe. Clarett returns to where it all began

After serving a 3.5 year prison stint in Toledo, Ohio, Fiesta Bowl hero Maurice Clarett re-enrolled on Monday at The Ohio State University to pursue his degree in criminology. Though Clarett said in a statement that he does not want to be a “distraction or nuisance” to the football team or university, he has to know he certainly will. At the very least, there is an ex-con roaming around campus who was busted for carrying a concealed weapon and...

Titans sue Kiffin and USC

Because USC’s culture is anything but desirable, it’s fitting the program was hit with another black eye. Today, the Tennessee Titans filed a lawsuit against USC and coach Lane Kiffin for “maliciously” interfering with coach Kennedy Pola’s contract when they lured him away from the Titans. Coach Jeff Fisher, a USC alum, was irked by the lack of respect and professionalism displayed by Kiffin for failing to contact Fisher or the team before pursuing Pola. Fisher hired Pola through...

Credit Card Cyclone

Reports out of Ames indicates Cyclones’ star safety David Sims is under investigation for his alleged involvement of a stolen credit card. Earlier this month, a Des Moines woman reported her credit card was stolen from her son while he was in Ames. After the card was reported stolen, there were several unauthorized charges at numerous Ames area businesses. Investigators received tips that pointed to Sims. As a result, authorities got a search warrant and searched Sim’s apartment but...

A Titan comes to Troy

USC’s adoration for making headlines continues tonight as Lane Kiffin managed to piss someone off beyond the college football world. Earlier today, Kiffin snagged Tennessee Titans running backs coach Kennedy Pola to coach his offense without even having the respect to contact Titans coach Jeff Fisher as a courtesy. Only after Kiffin and Pola made arrangements did he finally decide to contact Fisher. Pola, a former Trojan, will assume ousted Todd McNair’s duties and looks forward to his return...
