Akeem Dent (#51) looks forward to returning to the field after undergoing toe surgery

Senior LB Akeem Dent may be sidelined from the Bulldogs’ September 4th season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette as he is recovering from a left first toe injury. Last week, Dent injured his toe in an off the field incident. Earlier today, he underwent outpatient surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia to repair the damaged toe.

The surgery was successful but Dent has to stay off of his feet for 4-6 weeks which means he will miss all of preseason. Dent showed promise during spring practice and worked his way to the top of the depth chart at strong-side linebacker. Having to miss all of preseason practice will hurt his future playing time especially since first year defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is switching from the traditional 4-3 defense to a 3-4 alignment, a very difficult transition to make your senior year.

Georgia’s first true test is the September 11th road trip to South Carolina. For the Bulldog nation, let’s hope Dent is 100% come game time as his team will need the services of a LB who has amassed 114 career tackles on the field.
