Pittsburgh's Jabaal Sheard (#97) may avoid criminal charges and be reinstated to the team prior to preseason practice

Earlier this month we reported that Pittsburgh’s star DE Jabaal Sheard was suspended from the team indefinitely as a result of him going MMA on a poor victim after downing some IC light in the bar district of South Side street. It now appears the prosecutor and victim are huge Panthers fans and want this case to disappear. Sheard’s preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for July 28th but was postponed until August 4th to allow more time to settle the case in exchange for dropping the criminal charges.

The victim, Edward Parker from Hollywood, Florida, is seeking lost wages, medical costs, and field passes (this is a rumor) in exchange for agreeing to drop the charges. All parties are quickly trying to resolve this matter with hopes of the charges getting dropped prior to the start of the Panthers’ preseason camp. However, even if the prosecutors drop the case, it is not guaranteed that the university will reinstate Sheard.

At this point, it’s probably safe to say that as soon as practice commences, Wannstedt will quickly realize the need for his star defensive end come opening day. Presently, Sheard remains on bond and must stay out of trouble if he doesn’t want to land behind bars for the rest of the summer.

Worst case scenario, Sheard can transfer to Ohio State as the Buckeyes enroll just about anyone despite a criminal past.
