Boise State locks up Petersen

Boise State fans can breath a collective sigh of relief. School officials offered head coach Chris Petersen a new 5-year contract  worth an estimated 8 million dollars. Petersen’s new deal also allows for raises as perks for win totals, along with an automatic extension every time his team wins 8 games.  The Idaho State Board of Education will have to approve the deal, which is expected to pass without any issues. Petersen has put together an impressive 49-4 record...

Myles isn’t all smiles

Tennessee might want to think about scrapping their football program and come back in a few years, you know, sort of like Enron. Since college football’s resident diva Lane Kiffin left Tennessee for the younger, sexier, USC, Tennessee and Derek Dooley have been in a tailspin that seems to dive deeper with every passing week. Fresh off Tennessee’s annual Orange and White game Saturday, safety Darren Myles, Jr. celebrated a little too much and was picked up by Knoxville’s...

Martinez Shines in Lincoln

Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez stole the headlines in the Huskers’ Red-White game on Saturday afternoon. The redshirt freshman QB filled in for injured starting QB Zac Lee. Lee underwent off-season elbow surgery on his throwing arm in early January which sidelined him for all of Nebraska’s spring practice. Husker faithful assumed that Lee would still have the starting job secured by the time of his return but it now looks as if a full blown QB competition is underway in Lincoln, NE....

NCAA football’s governing body just approved rule changes earlier today that will take effect starting in 2011 to include no eye black messages, no wedge blocking, and no major taunting. We first reported the proposed rule change back in February, but now it’s official. Players wearing eye black will be forbidden to write any messages on their glare blocking accessories. While eye black has always been a part of football, the trend of writing messages on them really took off...

There’s hope for Hope

Purdue’s Danny Hope was given a one-year contract extension that will keep him in West Lafayette through 2014. Hope was named Purdue’s head coach last summer when Joe Tiller decided to retire. Even though Hope went 5-7 in his first season as head coach, the Boilermaker community is optimistic about his future. Purdue’s athletic director Morgan Burke gave Hope a ringing endorsement: “Beginning with the day he returned to Purdue, Danny has followed a master plan for our football...

Green is gone

Alabama will be forced to make their run for a second straight national championship without safety Robby Green. The 6’0 180 lb. sophomore will miss all of the 2010 college football season after the NCAA ruled him ineligible for violating NCAA policy. Even though Green will miss all of next season, he will still be able to practice with the team and will remain on scholarship. Alabama has been secretive about Green’s issue and no reason has been given...

Bolden tears ACL

Purdue’s Ralph Bolden suffered an ACL tear in his right knee according to team officials and will undergo surgery to repair the damage. Bolden first suffered the injury during Purdue’s March 31st practice, but the team didn’t announce the severity of the injury until yesterday. As of now, a timetable  for Bolden’s return to the field is unknown. “Could be ready by the season but we’ll have to wait and see,” coach Danny Hope said. “It’s one of those...
